iPhone Frippertronics With SynthPad

This is a Frippertronics style demo of SynthPad  – a new iPhone instrument inspired by the interface of the Korg Kaossilator family of devices.

Instead relying on piano keys to register notes, SynthPad uses a dedicated touch surface to control the sounds. Additionally the Y-Axis on the touch surface can be used to control different parameters, like filter cutoff and LFO values, making it an “expressive little toy.”

Its sound engine is a fully programmable monophonic virtual analog synthesizer. Among its parameters one can find:

  • 2 oscillators with different wave shapes
  • Fine tuning of the second oscillator
  • Volume Envelope
  • LFO modulation
  • A Low-Pass filter
  • Filter Envelope
  • Arpeggio

Additionally, the scale and the key on the touchpad surface can also be configured, for live improvisation.

SynthPad is available now in the App Store for $1.99.

Note: The developer says in the comments that version with the looping functionality has been submitted to Apple but is waiting approval.

  1. Hello,
I'm the developer of the app. The delay/looper feature IS NOT YET AVAILABLE (as of 9/6/10). It has been submitted to the AppStore for approval, so I expect it to be there by the end of the week.
    Cheers!
    Hector

  2. It's a nice little portable synth. The interface reminds me more of the BeBot app than a Kaossilator. The flexibility of the sounds is beyond either of those systems though. Navigating the menu system takes a bit of getting used to; my fat fingers keep changing settings (especially the arpeggiator toggle) when I'm trying to flick between the screens. I'm looking forward to the loop functionality.
