  1. I don't quite like this one, tried it and its out of my setup almost instantly.

The problem here is priority. A short recap: my keyboard (casio ctk4000) can layer 2 sounds out of the box. Guess what I really enjoyed when I hooked it up with Ableton Live? Midi in/Midi out. Now I can layer 16 instruments.

The problem with this VST is the shifting priority between instruments. I tried one of my most favorite (play) combo: an orchestral piano combined with an orchestral string section (note; names are Ableton based; all part of the EIC2). I really enjoy playing some (slow) root key / chord combo's. "it just sounds grand".

But with this plugin? At one time the strings take over, then the piano takes the lead and before you know the backing bass is in the front. All while merely hitting keys; nothing else. The only thing I did was pick the instruments in a certain order.

No; this isn't a success in my book.

  2. I've been trying it out. Some of the instruments are a real knock out. Others less so. I rendered midi tracks to audio in Cubase Studio 4.5, normalized them. The results are quite good in the following instruments I've tried: tympani, pizz strings, orchestra perc., strings mf and bassoon. Less successful with the trumpets. Will be trying the rest.
I will be adding it to my Notion kit.
    Cheers,

  3. What a nice surprise! To have something of this magnitude for free, DSK sure is on a roll as of late. I will try to have some fun with it during the weekend, just messing around with it in VSTHost, sounds great. =)

  4. I'm not a big fan of DSK, most of their vsts are of mediocre quality imho, especially those based on samples. But this one looks like it's a really usable one! The sounds are ok (not top notch, but pretty usable) and it offers some good degree of effects and tweaking possibilities.

  5. This is pretty good – actually it's bloody excellent. Modern musos are spoit for choice and that's just it – you have to cast your lizard mind back to the time of your ancestral dinosaurs when a monolithic moogular monosynth spawned many an electronic marvel, but synthesists pined for the realistic horizon – near brass would do because it had to. Likewise near strings and near choirs and near orchestras were all there was for the money strapped. I know we have to appreciate how far we've come from time to time – but if this is too realistic for you, simply layering a subsynth really makes the differences between them come alive. Remember we're here because we are experimental/creative artistic types, and deciding this is a bit too fiddly or not quite brand X or a bit precious of whatnot – well why not just dismiss the entire electronic music genre because it's not really 'real music'. Hats off to you DSK – the world thanks you.

  6. DSK Overture produces beautiful sounds and it is different from their previous plug ins because you can layer up to four instruments! Wow. So far my favorite combinations are the bassoon and piano. Violin and piano. Well done. 🙂

  7. I just dowloaded this an hour or so ago, popped it into a composition, and got going. I already love it. It's got what seems to me is the full spectrum of sounds from an orchestra, which is what I was doing a web search for getting me here on this page. I'd be pretty happy with just the sounds, but this program packs so much more. I'd write more about that, but I'm eager to get back to making music. Thank you so very much for DSK Overture!

  8. Thanks for your publication on this site. From my personal experience,
there are times when softening upward a photograph may well provide the photographer with a bit of
an creative flare. More often than not however, that soft clouds
isn’t just what you had planned and can usually spoil a normally good snapshot, especially if you intend on enlarging that.
