iPhone NanoStudio Gets Akai SynthStation 25 Support

Blipinteractive has announced that they are updating NanoStudio to add support for the Akai SynthStation25.

Everything’s pretty well complete, need to do some more final testing and then it’s ready to go in the next update.

When’s the next update you ask? Well I want to include a couple of other things too (such as improved sample interpolation) so it’s probably going to be sent to Apple early next week. Expect it to be available in the app store in approximately 3 weeks time!

NanoStudio is a virtual studio for the iPhone, featuring the Eden synthesizer, trigger pads, sequencer and effects.

Check out our NanoStudio coverage for a preview of the app in action.

    1. I plugged it in turned it on and bought the app on my iPhone and then put in my headphones and I can’t get any sound? What do I do? I want to use this thing but I can’t hear anything and I’m getting so mad

  1. Not to worry guys, iOS 4.2 supports Core MIDI and therefore you can connect any Plug&Play MIDI controller instead just by using iPad Camera Connection Kit .
MIDI controleer has to be either with very low voltage requirements, or self powered – Novation SL 37 for example can use 4xC batteries or AC adaptor and works like a treat 🙂

      1. It does now, been using it. Works great! A lot of the crashing problems being reported are associated with low batteries.

  2. It will be a welcome addition to akai’s own
app which is not that good.
You can do a great performance on the synthstation
but you can not record it, export it or save it
    you can not reset it

  3. @synthhead That’s absolutely false! I have an iphone4 and i got the synthstation25 yesterday and BOTH works just perfect! IT IS COMPATIBLE!

    1. Ricardo – On the back of the SynthStation25 box, it shows what iPhones are officially supported: the iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. Also, the iPhone 4 won't physically fit in the SynthStation25 as it ships.

We've been told that iPhone 4 support is on its way.

Glad to hear that it works to your satisfaction already, though.

  4. The more apps that use this, the more likely I might pick one up…

I wish they had a list of compatible apps somewhere – I do have iVoxel which is compatible.

This seems a little more elegant than packing my Oxygen8 and an iPhone MIDI kit

  5. I just purchased the SynthStation25 tonight and it works just fine with my iPhone4. Snug fit. Nice. The app sucks though, very very excited for the 1.12 NanoStudio version! 🙂

  6. Sometimes I get the "This product is not compatible with this iPhone" pop-up on my iPhone 4 – not sure when it's happening as it's not consistent.

The "groove" in the mount is rounded for the iPhone 3(GS), but since the iPhone 4 is smaller it will fit, however it seem to lift it a bit on the other end (opposite the dock) – so not perfect.

I just hope they don't come out with a completely new product for the iPhone 4, so I'll have to buy a new one

  7. i use the synthstation and the iphone 3G – the 3G is a little slow when you use some extralarge polyphonic sounds with more then 4 keys. i hope this is only a problem of the old 3G – thats the only negativ point for me.

i got the synthsation about a month ago and i must say it has everything you can expect from a 98 euro keyboard. i mainly use it with nanostudio and the drumcomputer of akai´s synthstation app. it´s good and simple hardware – it´s perfect for homerecording and also very nice in live situations.

beside that you can use these Apps too:
    -"iVoxel" (Vocoder)
    -"NLog" (Synthesizer)
-"MusicStudio" (believe me – the keyboard works although it isn´t officially "compatible").

  8. I just got synthstation keys and nanostudio for my iphone4. I get "Device not compatible" intermitant key transmission, low volume, and noise and buzz. It is not a snug fit, but I rubber padded it to make it so. I am a pro musician/lots of synths plus digital board etc really disappointing!

  9. Iphone 4 does not cooperate with.synthstation – it tells “device incompatible” and stops recharging. In addition the entry in settings/general/about does not show up as mentioned in the manual.
