Tron 2 Trailer (Latest)

Here’s the latest trailer for Tron: Legacy……..

via DisneyMovieTrailers:

TRON: LEGACY is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), a rebellious 27-year-old, is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin Flynn (Oscar- and Golden Globe-winner Jeff Bridges), a man once known as the world’s leading video-game developer. When Sam investigates a strange signal sent from the old Flynn’s Arcade—a signal that could only come from his father—he finds himself pulled into a digital world where Kevin has been trapped for 20 years. With the help of the fearless warrior Quorra (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-or-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe—a universe created by Kevin himself that has become far more advanced with never-before-imagined vehicles, weapons, landscapes and a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to prevent their escape. Presented in Disney Digital 3D and scored by Grammy Award-winning electronic music duo Daft Punk, TRON: LEGACY hits U.S. theaters on Dec. 17, 2010 in Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3D.

  1. Right. Honest reply here as well..

When it comes to Disney I'm a critic. I'm a freak when it comes to cartoons and animation but when it comes to Disney my feelings are "so so". I don't like the way they (ab)used (for example) books from Kipling ("Junglebook", I actually read this) which were free game at that time yet when someone tried to use their stuff based on it (on a fan based website, nothing commercial) they're out to get you. Well… as a side remark; I also don't like them getting a hand on Inspector Gadget either.

When it comes to remakes I'm an even bigger critic. Sure; sometimes it adds up, no doubts there. King Kong "2" (80's) vs. the first brought more background to the story for example. But trying to re-do one of my favorites 'Firestarter' for example looked really dumb to me. In the overall; "the search for more money".

My context setup is big as is, so lets skip the trailer part 😉

Having said all of the above I still have to admit that this trailer looks very good indeed. I have the original Tron in my DVD collection and well.. I like their style to be honest. It gives a new twist to the story (so shattering the idea of a "mere" remake), the special effects look pretty slick but (judging by the trailer) its not out of the ordinary or being overdone (the one thing I couldn't stand with the Star Wars remakes; the stuff had to be "better" which made it also look "funny" here and there) and although the storyline does seem cliche.. yeah well; that's just the kind of thing which this kind of movie needs in my opinion.

And that is what earns this my respect so far.. It doesn't seem to try to go out of its bounds to be "new and better", from the looks of it this is "new and different", and that is something I can *fully* respect.

A new Tron while *also* leaving the previous movie completely within its own value.

Yeah, this looks like something I'll be watching when it comes out as well!

  2. You realise that the original Tron was a Disney movie as well, don't you?

Regardless though, I have so many memories of loving Tron as a kid when it came out, that there is almost no way I would miss this movie. It helps though that everything they've released looks awesome. I sincerely hope it's not like the Bay Transformers or Star Wars Episodes 1-3.

The soundtrack seems pretty fantastic as well, and even if the movie ends up sucking, i'll probably still pick up the soundtrack on cd.

  3. Ayups, fully realize that aspect. Merely giving some context to my overall stance that I simply don't like the things Disney as a company does in the overall. And a remake from a company you kinda dislike from the start?

  4. Then it heavily depends on the sequel. In many cases I tend to pick up sequels as "the search for more money", very often a sequel will easily manage to kill the atmosphere of the first film, therefor the entire series.

But other times this too adds up. Take for example 'Alien' and 'Aliens' where the sequel is maybe better known than the original. But when looking at movies like 'Terminator' you have the classic example of milking it dry.

  5. Lol –
SolarOS 4.0.1 sun4m i386 as the operating system on that terminal caption 😉
And editing "last_will_and_testament.txt" with vi in the process list. Hahaha.
I hope they also put Pac-Man and Mickey as Easter eggs this time. I will watch this one.

  6. Obligatory movie quote: "It's a Unix system, I know this." (although this particular system is based on BSD instead of Unix System V like IRIX in Jurassic Park)

I'm looking forward to the movie. The story may be crap, but so was the original's. The most important thing is the visual style which they seem to have nailed. I guess the original TRON would look the same if it were filmed today using modern CG throughout instead of manually coloring individual frames for the glow effect. Certainly a better match than the Star Wars prequels for instance.
