Korg iElectribe Gorillaz Edition

iElectribe Gorillaz

Korg has teamed up with the virtual band Gorillaz to create a new beatbox for the iPad: The Korg iELECTRIBE Gorillaz Edition.

While retaining the intuitive beat-making features of the iElectribe, the Gorillaz Edition is a new machine customized to generate Gorillaz samples from their fourth album The Fall. The iElectribe Gorillaz Edition features: 128 new sounds created by Gorillaz; and 64 ready-to-use pre-programmed patterns by the sound team Gorillaz, Stephen Sedgwick, and Korg.

Unfortunately, the Gorillaz sounds appear to not be cleared for commercial use. Korg notes, ” Commercial use of the works created by using this application is subject to the copyright clearance from right holders.”

A “limited run of 10,000 units” is available in the App Store for US $9.99.

We’d prefer to see this less “limited” and more copyright cleared, but it’s sure to be a hit for Korg, anyway.

  1. Not excited by the Gorillaz version – but this makes me wonder if a version may be coming where you can load up your own sound sets.

This looks like they just skinned iElectribe loaded custom samples & patterns. It would be a killer upgrade it they added support for adding your own samples and sharing soundpacks.

  2. OH GORILLAZ….. I'm sure this app will be pretty righteous. But not allowing people to use the samples for commercial use???? doesn't sound very GORILLA-esque to me. Sounds more like stingy group of deuchers. GORILLAZ went from Che Guevara to Ronald Reagan. lol but hey. they're the rich guys not me.

  3. warning!
its nothing more then a remix tool for the gorillaz album. no real ielectribe. it has no synth parts only pcm sounds.

  4. both parties have a repution so i don't think they would enter into somthing like this lightly. I think this is a great achievment, imagine the work involved getting clearance to use samples from an artist like this. Well done Korg another product that no other manufacturer would even dare to attempt to make.
    :o)))

  5. Good promotional idea 😉
I have been begging Korg to do an iESX so I can load my own samples in to it much like they have allowed Gorillaz to do here…but nothing yet.

  6. Who's to say you can't use iPhone explorer and Hack your own samples in? Worth a shot, since the door has been opened.

  7. I'm not a pro, but from appearances and descriptions, this thing doesn't have envelopes, resampling, directional playback of samples and all sorts of things that a 'sampler' should have. I doubt i would even be able to hear a sound difference between this and the real hardware. (also doubt i would care to) Maybe it's the luddite in me, but my problem with the ipad in general is that it is midi based, but you tell me how accurate it is turning these virtual knobs, on your little screens. If it works for you, fine, but i prefer and always will, tactility of hardware. Even the Moog Filtatron, great company, good sounding app. As good as a fooger? Not even close. All the power to you pad heads though.

  8. The iElectribe isn't a sampler, it's a drum machine.

The Gorillaz version may be targeting consumers, but the iElectribe seems to be a pretty serious drum machine.

You should check it out before you dis it as not being professional enough for you!

  9. I appreciate vibrant user interface in a soft synth (and other plugins). It makes me want to play certain aspects of the tool more passionately. This psychologically emphasizes certain sounds which may be a special strength of the device. For example, NI's Razor is like a science lab, with its worn metal surface and Futura-y typeface.

Here, I think of Fallout's Pip-Boy. Which makes me think, we need more synths with phosphor glow CRT effects, hehe.

Gosh, someone should start an equivalent to http://www.iosinspires.me/ for synth "characters".

  15. I logged on the forum just to see if anyone has ever come any further with hacking the ielectribe app in order to replace th uninspiring drumsamples with some of your own. It would breath new life in the decent app, but the 90’s sounding samples make it limited to 90s sounding music, and thats not what I want.

Anyone found the file in the original ielectribe app that contains the samples?
i am new to apple producst, so even simple hack like this is beyond me.

    worth the hassle i.m h.o.
