The End Of The World Is Coming. Which Synth Are You Taking With You?

zombie with a keytarThe end is here – at least it is according to followers of radio host Harold Camping.

He predicts that at 6 pm local time, we’ll have earthquakes and then about 3% of the world’s population will be raptured. For everybody else, it’s 5 months of hell on earth.

Meanwhile, the US Center For Disease Control has independently issued recommendations for how to prepare for the coming Zombie apocalypse.

Between zombies and the end of the world, it’s a good time to plan ahead and pick the one synth that you’ll be taking with you. You don’t want to be sitting, debating the one synth to take with you, when a zombie is coming after your brains.

My pick? My Sequential Circuits Pro One.

Here’s why:

  • Cheap, lightweight build quality – so the Pro One won’t slow me down when I’m running from the undead;
  • The Pro-One has a knob for everything, so there will be no need for a manual when civilization as we know it ends; and, most of all…..
  • If there are no earthquakes, the Pro One can still deliver earth-shattering bass.

There are some downsides to the Pro One, of course. The lightweight construction means that it’s pretty much useless as a weapon. A Moog Liberation might be better for that. And, if things get really apocalyptic, a battery powered synth might prove to be a better choice.

What’s your choice of synth for the apocalypse?

  1. Elektron Monomachine!
synths machines (many engine types) + drum sounds + build in sequencer,
compact size, plenty of knobs. all I need is there!

  2. Oberheim obxa. Heaven can't touch my OB. I'll sooth the doomed souls with 120 patches of bliss, and some of the chosen might even return and choose to stick around when they behold 8 voltage controlled curtis filters speak the gospel of Oberheim.

  3. Will take a grandpiano upgraded with monster truck wheels. Most definitely will take its guts out so I could get inside and hide. Just in case.

  4. I'm a samplist more than anything, so I think I want a solar powered MPC and mic combo. I'll sample the zombies.

  5. read the bible and get an understanding that was a test did u fail it dont be mis led that message could have sent non believers into a panic attact i feel that man should get help that is sick

  6. why I'd take my MicroKORG XL of coarse!!! it runs on batteries! just have to raid a few Wal-Mart's or stores in general 🙂 now to find some speakers that are battery operated for those times i wouldn't want to use my headphones =P

  7. I'd take my little Teeneage Engineering OP-1. It's compact & lightweight so won't slow me down when running from the zombie hordes. The battery also lasts for ages and I could concieveably hook it up to some sort of energy source that gets it's power from burning "armstrong's" bibles.

  8. Not sure if this counts, but I would take my iPad – most versatile by far with the 20+ apps I've got. Of course depends if I can plug in to a power source, but most of you are taking synths that require power 🙂

  9. I agree with @ideletemyself. It has to run on batteries, so I’d dust off my old Korg 707 and barter with fellow survivors for D cells. It’s lightweight and even will take a guitar strap so I can sling it on my back!

  10. Waldorf Blofeld module and a battery pack.
Got endless synth creations and rock solid for all those bash n slash times ahead.

  11. If I was I thought I could make it to a compound with power – Waldorf Blofeld. Metal case could come in handy. I could play while barricading a door for example. If I had to run on batteries, how about a Poly 800.

  14. I love the idea of a synth powered by burning bibles, you'd never run out of fuel. We used to roll joints with bible paper when there were no zig zags. Holy scripture made the joint a bit harsh, but they were big! So there, the bible is good for something after all.

    🙂

What? No love for the battery powered zombie-proof Beat Thang? Not yet out but sounds like a perfect compact survival music kit. I am not into the market for one, but i can see that thing glowing in the dark while hidding from brain snackers….

  16. Maybe Jordan Rudess' keytar thing. It looks deadly enough to beat the brains out of the most robust of zombies. Otherwise, maybe a Harmonium…it has presets like a synthesizer and only needs foot power!

  17. Well…to late now. But if I had seen this post earlier I would have said my beloved Kawai K1. Lightweight…great lo-fi sound with touches of Roland D-50 and Korg M1 to boot plus vector synthesis all wrapped up in a $75 price tag from Ebay.

Now that I have more time since the Apocalypse did not happen, my beloved/behated Kawai K5. Now I have more time to program and shape waveforms.

  18. I'll take a Monotron, it only need batteries and has his own speaker, it's great because i can keep it in my pocket and leave my hands free to use an axe. Heads will roll
