IK Multimedia Intros iRig MIDI CoreMIDI Interface & SampleTank For iOS

IK Multimedia have introduced iRig MIDI – a CoreMIDI interface for iPhone, iPod touch &  iPad and SampleTank for iOS.

iRig MIDI is a compact standard CoreMIDI interface for iOS that connects any MIDI compatible device to the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

This, along with CoreMIDI interfaces from Yamaha and Line 6, mean that there’s now competition in the world of MIDI interfaces for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

iRig MIDI connects MIDI keyboards, drum machines, drum pads, pedal boards and more to an iOS device to control not only the included SampleTank Free, but also a world of MIDI-compatible apps such as GarageBand.

You can also use iOS apps to control external MIDI equipment such as sound modules, DAWs or lighting systems right from the mobile device.

The included SampleTank for iOS also offers a mobile alternative to traditional software and hardware sound modules. According to IK Multimedia – SampleTank has been designed ‘from the ground up to work as a live performance instrument’, where it can access as a vast 1GB library of over 500 ready-to-use sounds.

IK Multimedia iRig MIDI is ‘coming soon’ and will sell for US $69.99.

  1. Wow, i thought there be at least a zillion comments by now…. isnt midi for the ipad was supposed to be a good thing?

  2. I like this a little more than the line 6 mobilizer. It comes with a usable app, has midi thru, and a charing port. Gonna be hard to top.

  3. This is all fine and dandy, but there *still* isn't a true MIDI-OUT SEQUENCER APP where we can load our own midi files, with the ability to mute or solo channels. I ain't talkin' 'bout the apps that control some cheeseball built-in GM soundset, either. I want to use my iPad as a portable hardware sequencer without carting around my laptop!

  4. I regret buying this gear. I took the iRIG midi out of the box and noticed that it had shipped with only one midi cable and 2 usb power cables. Lame. but it really didn’t matter because I plugged it into my iPad and it didn’t recognize the device. Just to be sure that it was the device and not my iPad.. I plugged the device into my iPhone 4S and still nothing. This product was in my posession for less than 3 hours. I packed it away and processed the return. I’m certain I’ll never buy anything from IK multimedia again.

total waste of time and money
