  1. At least synthtopia's supporting android a little more, but i agree with the meh, there's a lot more interesting apps that a 303 emulator.

  2. I don't think it's about Synthtopia's support, there simply isn't enough product to report on to have a steady stream of Android music news. Kinda meh to me too, but every new release bodes well for the platform as a whole.

  3. Exactly – despite what some may think – our coverage is not driven by platform but by where there's actually interesting synth action going on.

Android as a music platform is about 2 years behind iOS. The platform's diversity and latency are regularly mentioned as obstacles, along with difficulty for developers to actually make money on their apps.

These things will change over time – but it will take some time.

If you know of other synth-worthy apps – let us know via the Submit a story page.

  39. Android software develop has taken a beating recently to say the least.. As can be read this application is available from the market place. The same Google market place which has caused dozens of developers to spout their grieve over it because their monthly stats showed sales while their wallet didn't.

One of the most heard statement in that very thread was that even though people wrote e-mails to support desks they hardly got any statements from Google. A statement which has been raised (and recognized) in many other threads as well. And that whole development led to this:
    http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android+Mar

If you're going to follow that link also move one level 'upwards' (click the "technical help" link at the top) and just peek over some of the topics there. You'll notice that most are from developers, not users. Who – in my opinion – now basically have received the finger (no; not that cool Reaktor app. from Tim Exile ;-)).

Hence my my technical comment; I wouldn't bet too much on the same amount of high-quality Android applications which are fully aimed at sound making / processing. One of the reasons for that is that Apple actually has a public forum for its developers:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/developer

Not only that; some of the comments in that forum are sometimes even more critical than the ones in the Android forums. Yet I don't see Apple closing down this forum anytime soon now.

Note; I'm neither an Android user/developer nor an Apple user/developer. Just commenting on this from a technical background, that's all.

  44. Android software develop has taken a beating recently to say the least.. As can be read this application is available from the market place. The same Google market place which has caused dozens of developers to spout their grieve over it because their monthly stats showed sales while their wallet didn't.

  51. San francisco rhinoplasty was primarily performed according to an idea
of beauty based on a subset of American Caucasian
aesthetics. However, more recently a number of surgeons
have tried to expand their approach. Some doctors
specifically offer "ethnic rhinoplasty" to Hispanics,
    Asians and African Americans.

  57. meh +1, although I'm starting to feel that way about the IPAD as well now. There is loads of software as we well know for the IPAD but nobody is getting it right, its not supposed to be a PC so why does every app look like VST with loads of tiny controls you haven't got a hope in hell of using reliably in a live or jam situation, i've tried, you simply cannot tweak any synth on the go. The whole idea of mobile music making needs a rethink I believe. A good example is the ims20 synth, its totally unusable as an app without some sort of controller.

  58. SynthFan – good points. Apple has made a lot of unpopular decisions for iOS that have ultimately proven to be good for the platform.

Google's smart, though, and will adapt Android over time.

  59. This is something we've been advocating for several years – tablet music apps call for new ways of making music, not interfaces that mimic 30 year old hardware and 700 year old keyboard interfaces.

iOS has spurred a huge period of experimentation with alternative music interfaces. A real barrier to this, though, is that most musicians want to buy a virtual Minimoog.

  60. I wasn’t commenting about Android, just the app. It’s uninteresting. Meh.

On Android, I don’t think so. Why would I ever dream of performing with a machine made by a search engine company with no track record? Not going to happen. I stick with what works. The rest has to be dead to me.

  61. I use it all the time with SPC, its a great app. I do use it live. Id use rebirth if I had the right computer or an iPad, but I dont. Being an original Rebirth user in 97', this does a fine job.

As far as a search engine company with no track record, I wasnt aware Google has no track record….Its an OS, not a machine.

Mikrosonic does a fine job and is exemplary in what music in your pocket is all about…Fun, Usability, and Quality. When the day comes these tools can be synced as opposed to just exporting that'll be a great day.
