Animoog Now Available On The iPhone

Moog Music has introduced Animoog for the iPhone. Powered by Moog’s Anisotropic Synth Engine (ASE), Animoog allows you to move dynamically through an X/Y space of unique timbres to create a constantly evolving and expressive soundscape.

It’s currently priced at $.99, so it’s a no-brainer for iPhone users. The regular price will be $9.99.

Note: Must have arm7 processor (iPhone 4, 4s; iPod Touch 4th gen) minimum to run Animoog for iPhone.

Key Features:

  • Anisotropic Synth Engine (ASE) – An exciting new Moog technology that allows the user to move dynamically through an X/Y space of unique timbres to create an expressive and constantly evolving soundscape.
  • Timbre page – Assemble unique sounds in the X/Y space from timbres of a wide variety of vintage and modern Moog synthesizers and pedals. Note: this is NOT simple sample playback.
  • Polyphonic Modulation – Simply slide your fingers to control multiple modulation parameters in Animoog right from the keys.
  • Polyphonic Pitch Shifting – Easily manipulate the exact pitch of each note in a chord by rotating or sliding your fingers.
  • Delay Module – A classic analog style ping pong delay.
  • Thick Module – From bit crushing to unison voice detuning and drive, this module adds depth, edge and character to Animoog’s already massive sound palette.
  • Moog Filter – The classic four-pole Moog ladder filter with High Pass, Low Pass and Band Pass modes.
  • Record Module – Record your performance and overdub new layers, or play along live. Transfer recordings between Animoog and any other apps which support the general pasteboard.
  • Path Module – Direct ASE through Animoog’s X/Y space to create new expressive and shifting sounds that will blow your mind!
  • Orbit Module – Control the rate of orbit in the X/Y space around the path you created for subtle to insane voice manipulation.
  • Flexible Modulation Matrix – Amp, Filter and Mod Envelopes, LFO with infinitely variable wave shapes and sync, and four super flexible and assignable modulation slots.
  • MIDI in – Use your Little Phatty or any other MIDI controller to control Animoog.

  1. I hate you Synthopia for posting all these apps I cannot run on my now outdated 3G iPhone
I hate you Moog for making synths so high-fi for my lousy tech specs…

but I am proud of myself for still being able to resist the temptation of buying an iPad… 🙂

  2. I haven’t gotten a chance to play with this yet, to see if it has virtual midi/background audio, but the potential here is kind of amazing. If you have this on your iPad with the big version and something like Genome sending them both MIDI, you could be playing both Animoogs at once!

  3. It works on third generation iPod touch. Though change presets too fast, or do other things and you’ll get some drop outs. You can still have fun with it easily.

  4. w00t!
Best Xmas present of the year!
Thank you, Thank you Moog for being a responsive group and making this happen!
now if you can fix the Beatmaker2 pasteboard problem in Filltatron my love for you will be complete 😉
Thanks Synthtopia for making my day with this news too,
Bless you all and Happy Holidays..

  5. Since I only own an iPod touch, I didn’t have any chance to test Animoog while it was iPad-only. This new release was a pleasent surprise.
I am quite enthusiastic about this app. It is just great that one of the most traditional companies in the business comes up with an innovative new kind of synthesizer interface. I needed a few minutes to understand the concept but then everything was clear. Now, designing sounds that keep changing and evolving is easy and fun. To be honest, it is a little bit annoying that everything is so small on my iPod touch, but I guess that’s the compromise for not buying an iPad yet.

Anyways – I think Animoog is a great sounding synthesizer with an interesting new approach to the interface design, so I can only recommend to try it 🙂

  6. just WOW! this is truly fantastic. a freakin’ MOOG on an iphone / ipod! I’ll always love the hardware, but ‘soft’ware this good is making me hard.

  7. Got this last night and had a play around with it on iphone 4. Noticed there are some dropouts when you switch between presets and use more than four or five notes at the same time. However it feels like the most professional music software I have used on smartphones. It sounds absolutely delicious as well.

  8. What’s up with the non-universal apps anyway? Annoying to have to buy it again on the iPhone. Not that it will run on my 3GS anyway…. ;-(

But I really like Animoog on the iPad, so Moog music gets my 99 cents as a pre-order for a future upgraded iPhone.

    1. We are going to see this more and more. If a developer makes a universal app, that app will be larger and have more bugs, slower updates, etc due to the added complexity of supporting more devices and interface layouts. If they split it up for leaner apps, we have to pay twice. Catch 22.

  9. It’s not that hard and complex to set up iTunes Store to treat 1 app with 2 separate binary as an universal app and even simpler to make an actual universal app. Specially with iOS 6 it’s a snap.
