DM1 Turns Your iPhone Into A Drum Machine

Fingerlab has introduced DM1 for the iPhone, a iPhone + iPod touch version of its popular drum machine for the iPad.

DM1 offers 5 main sections:

  • THE STEP SEQUENCER frees your imagination with a smart use of the multi-touch screen. Just turn on and off steps in your sequence with the tip of your fingers to create cool beats, or unexpected rhythms!
  • THE DRUM PADS simply lets you play and record the beat that tickles your fingers. No need to be a first-class drummer, automatic quantize does the work for you.
  • THE MIXER for quick and subtle sound mixing of your drum kits. Featuring settings for volume, pitch, sample length, custom drum kit element for each channel, mute and solo mode.
  • THE FX TRACKPADS a creative FX trackpad to distort, modulate and transform your beats. The effects include: Overdrive, Delay, Phaser, Formant, Dalek, Filter and Compressor.
  • THE SONG COMPOSER allows you to quickly make a song with the beat patterns you have created. Just drag and drop the patterns onto the timeline. Fast and easy.

  1. DM1 is awesome!
Must have drum machine and the kits are really great…..
I just wish they would add the fx per channel and not for the final output..
They also won the Apple Design Awards this year…check the apple website.

  2. I have this but never use it. Mostly because export merges everything together and doesn’t allow you to have seperate stems for each sound. Is this still the case?

    1. You can mute and run out each track one by one. But I agree, I want an “export individual instruments/tracks” for every iOS app. This would make the real “scratch pad” use so much easier. Just get the groove right or work out an arrangement on an iPad, then quickly replace sounds/instruments in Logic.

  3. I find the limits of the excellent built-in sounds encourage creativity!
Would be nice to be able to apply FX and then audiocopy with FX though. MIDI sync would be useful too, as well as a user forum.

  4. Starting on the mpc3000 has made me realize how much I love importing samples, it allows for a much higher level of artistry,imo/. That’s the one thing I really wish they would implement on my Tempest. Anyway, the machine ios offers input sampling I believe. I like this template, but in order for it to be a real tool that i would actually use, it would need input sampling.

  5. Dunno about the iphone version but the ipad version supports midi but the sync is all messed up.
that is i t receives midi song start but after a couple of bars it looses sync. also note the following:

    –>

    DM1
Doesn’t actually support sync or doesn’t sync right w/ Genome. Supports ‘Start’ message only it seems.
Sequencing with notes is broken (timestamp issue?). It responds to immediate events but not sequenced events.
Not sure if channel filtering is working right – was still playing sounds even after switching channels. Not recommended at this time.

Maybe on the mac it syncs better ??
I'm using the iodock for all my IOS to PC midi tasks for the ipad and have also found that on the I-electribe there's the same Midi sync issue.
(Have tried to politely address this issue with tech folks @kKrg but they have completely ignored me)

as i don't plan on wasting time with such a wonderful Customer Service i simply record which ever phrases i need into a sound editor and move on..

anybody else experience this with syncing ? (DM1 / I-Electribe)

  6. I have the iPad version and I think it is the funnest, easiest to use, most well designed, all around best app out there for drums. I wonder how the iphone version compares?

  7. The bummer for me is that you can’t save your kit or tempo with a pattern. I know this is standard classic drum machine behavior but it’s a real bummer… you’d have to keep a separate note sheet to keep track of BPM/sounds for each song. Funkbox does that and it’s great. Has anyone else also noticed timing errors? Some shit sounds funky and I don’t mean that in a good way.

    1. I’ve also noticd timing errors. It sounds really bad. You can hear it if you sequence 16 or 32nd notes on a hoi-hat.

  8. hello there, the audiobus update was out yesterday! I’ve bought this app for iphone, but… is it possible to use it with MIDI in any way? for Ipad it is
