The results were announced at this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event.

As usual, trance music artists dominate the list. And female artists continue to be missing in action. And yes, the guys at the top are also the richest DJ’s in the world.

  1. *YAAAAAAWWNNNN* As with rabble-rousing Religion and politics, the most superficial pop music always draws the largest audience. People should give up that silly dance stuff and sit scowling as they listen to Pendercki & Harry Partch through headphones. HAH.

“The person who stands up and says, ‘This is stupid,’
either is asked to `behave’ or, worse,
    is greeted with a cheerful
‘Yes, we know! Isn’t it terrific!'”
    ~ Frank Zappa

  2. There are guys who play for 20 years and are very skilled, they don’t have hands up, they don’t smile, they enjoy and work and they producing music … what is doing van Buuren(and most of other on the list) with 5 players, computer and 2 mixers(one has sampler), when he has most of the time hands somewhere in the air, smiling, greeting? … press Play on computer and your marketing will solve the questions somehow … this is the reality of “big parties” now . .. it is said …

  3. Trance is dead,I can’t believe a trance dj tops the list?
Don’t get me wrong,I like trance but where I live this genre is dead, the glory years (2000-2005) are over.
Now these days the trance songs are full with stupid girls vocals and the arrangement is always the same.
It’s weird to see how this fantastic genre has changed into a genre that I don’t like anymore.
Like example the party’s these days are stupid because they put up a stage and everybody is around it filming or taking pictures with the phone and everybody is just watching the dj .
If I go out and want to party I don’t want to look to a dj standing on a stage with the hands up in the air.
If it’s a rock band it’s another story but watching a dj whole night long?
It’s not wrong to put a dj on a stage but please if you’r organize a party try to make a dance floor and not a stand for people with their phones.

    1. Oh, so you missed the glory years, 1992-98? Too bad for you.
I guess most of that would be called “hardtrance” nowadays – the muzak world is getting weaker by the day.

    2. 1999 was THE epic year for trance which was then followed by a disaster in 2000. Just compare Creamfields Essential Mix from 1999 to 2000

  4. … I seriously hate lists like this. I listen and enjoy what I like and I don’t need to be told who’s better than the other. But ok, I still do admit I can’t do anything about this list. I can be as vocal as I want but it’s not like it’s going away. Might as well just keep listening to what I like and move on.

  5. Well then…. Not much has changed in the past 20 years, has it?! This genre looks more and more like that disease of a genre, rock and roll, every day!! Yes ladies and gentlemen electronic dance music is dead!! What’s next then??

  6. For better or worse, these guys are tastemakers that determine what dance music makes it or not.

Lists like this do say a lot about the EDM industry.

  7. I was about to get some but saw this article and started reading it. To say the least it killed the mood and my wife went to bed.

  8. Its the DJ top List guys there will always be the flavor of the year, the divas and the pure quality (which this year is short on)

  9. I can’t remember the last time I cared about a DJ. I’m honestly not dissing. I’m saying that there are too many ways to find music these days to rely on DJs to find it for me. Even less if they are basically PR people for the pop music industry.

  10. John Digweed at #98 WTF is wrong with you voters. Don’t you know that most of these people can’t MIX two cd’s together, let alone two VINYL records. THAT is what a DJ is. Daft Punk and Deadhouse are NOT DJ’s…they are EDM performers. This list is officially DEAD.

  11. Just checked Juan Atkins at Tresor recently its twentieth birthday ,
It was the worst set of music and shit techno I have ever heard. He played utter shit trax.
What a shame when he has wrote the most ground breaking trax made, (Clear Cybotron,What’s the Game,Interference etc) all thie hero worship is comical.
Long live Ian Von Trapp and the Bradford and Leeds ACID house gang.

  12. Hi Moominmaggot ,I didn’t miss the years 1992-98 ( bonzai label partys, dance opera partys, clubs like illusion and atmoz ,la rocca ,cherrymoon etc…).
In that period I was a student and went to those partys every weekend under influence of every drug that you could find over here .
And when I say a weekend it was truly a whole weekend, pre party ,party and after partys.
    So really,I DIDN’T missed a thing of this ****
I live in Belgium and I’m raised with electronic music ( house, trance, hardtrance, hardcore, deep house, progressive trance and house)
I just say that around 2000 trance was hot around this area (in the clubs and huge partys) and the quality of the most songs was better than before that time.

  13. if van buren in the top it can’t be best 100 dj’s i have nothing against trance nut it embracing to see Digweed at the end and this stupid trance dj’s on a top

  14. I think that Axwell has had a awesome year and that van Buuren has only one “good” song: “We are here to make some noise”.

  15. I am not italian, and that i truly got nothing at all towards them, but I listen to
ladies saying that italian men are soooo hot,
and gorgeous, with model looks, but these exact same girls are with fellas that are not italian.

And when they’re italian, they surely don’t look like models.
I imply I’m able to realize the frustration of girls when they see males ogling at models/skinny women, and it makes me question no matter whether my physical appearance is suitable or not. So my question is are men of other ethnicities significantly less desirable? can it be a fantasy of every single lady to become using an italian dude?
