Korg Volca Bass Delivers Analog Synth Power For $150

At Musikmesse 2013, Korg today announced the Volca Bass – one of a trio of new Volca analog synthesizers with built-in sequencers.

Following in the footsteps of the Korg Monotron, Monotribe, and the MS-20 Mini synth, these true-analog instruments offer on-the-go sounds and grooves along with MIDI functionality. The series is comprised of three models: the Volca Keys lead synthesizer; the Volca Bass synthesizer; and the Volca Beats rhythm machine.

The Volca Bass is an analog bassline groove box that’s capable of generating a wide range of bass lines. Korg says that the Volca Bass analog sound engine has an ‘unmistakable presence, with subtle nuances that cannot be reproduced by a digital simulation, making it ideally-suited for acid house and many other styles of electronic music’.

The Volca Bass step sequencer – distilled from Korg’s Electribe series – offers a way to generate bass loops. The three oscillators can be combined in several ways via a voicing function, to generate a variety of thick and modulated bass sounds.

    LOL at those thinking these were vapourware. They should know better when dealing with korg these days. Now Roland on the other hand… doubt away. Poor Roland, so safe, so boring, so sad…..

  2. touch ribbon instead of buttons, ballsy
    3.5 mm jacks instead of 1/4 inch, affordable
    midi in and dc9v in right on top surrounding the eg section… priceless
    I love it, great job korg

    1. Hm… I don’t know. Cool thing is that you can do glissando with ribbons. But the way it’s used here makes it look somewhat cheaper. Plus: Ribbons somehow share a big lack of HAPTICS and FEEDBACK with touchscreens.

  5. Korg swallows my Money 🙁 😉 But its great. Roland and Yamaha are “Dead”
    but its a pity the bass has no official filter input ….but maybe they have a place on the curcuitboard for it 😉
