New Movie, LFO, Explores The Dark Side Of Synthesis

This is the official trailer for LFO, a new film that explores the dark side of synthesis and sound design.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

LFO is a dark comedy/drama/Sci-Fi about a man who realizes that he can hypnotize with sound. He starts experimenting on his neighbors, where the abuse of power takes over and, eventually, severe consequences for mankind are at stake.

No release date was announced with the trailer.

  1. Same post on 1/2013 via Bronco VIlle, matrixsynth. Still no release date though. I look forward to seeing this teaser/trailer again in July, October, and next January.

  2. This is a Rip OFF of a fantastic movie from the early 80s called “Decoder” Great another example of the times we live people steal original and creative ideas from the past and claim it as there own never even acknowledging were and who idea was taken from!

“Decoder, an underground film from the early 80’s has developed to a somehow prophetic cult movie. With an unique engagement of exceptional players, who for the most part play themselves (FM Einheit of Einstürzende Neubauten, the true Christiane F. of the infamous Bahnhof Zoo, Genesis P-Orridge of Psychic TV and the American writer William S. Burroughs) and extraordinary music of the time, such as Soft Cell, Einstürzende Neubauten, The The, the film dramatizes the transcending innovation which punk brought to the fields of communication, like a perfect precursor for the cyberpunk genre.

Muzak, the artificial music product created by scientists and marketing experts to increase efficiency and enhance well-being, irrigates men everywhere. A young punk and hobby sound mechanic decodes this music and creates an antidote to provoke disturbances not only in the burger joints where he found this music. By recruiting street pirates to spread his twisted sounds via tapes (an idea directly taken from Burroughs’ cut up manuals) the tumults turn into violent street fighting (with real footage from Berlin’s infamous Anti Reagan riots). The big corporations can not tolerate this and engage a shady agent to stop the antimuzak movement.”

    1. Oh FFS….

Don’t you know by now that…

      THERE ARE NO ORIGINAL IDEAS!

History and our past experiences always influence on our “own” ideas.

We all build upon the graves of our fathers.

    2. I just like synths – so I don’t really care if this story has been told before. I’ve never heard it, and this looks like a pretty darned good version!

  3. Having read the synopsis for Decoder too (as well as the synopsis for LFO above), the only resemblance I can see is that both movies play around with sound as a factor of influence. And since the movie hasn’t premiered yet I guess it’s too early to actually have a determined opinion about it.
Either way, the trailer looks fantastic and has caught my interest. Hope they’ll release it soon!
    Synth IS power! 🙂

  4. That music or sound can be mesmerizing–and potentially destructive–is an old trope, so I’m not sure the “ripoff” accusation holds much water. A few examples of this theme spring to mind: The Magic Flute; the Pied Piper of Hamelin; The Odyssey (specifically the music of the Sirens).

    Looks like a cool movie!
