Two Thousand Six Hundred Mini Meanie (Sneak Preview)

This video, via zthee, is a sneak preview of the Two Thousand Six Hundred Mini Meanie – a new DIY project inspired by the classic ARP 2600.

The TTSH will be available as a kit containing PCBs and front panel. The goal is to release it this fall. The project is currently in prototyping stage, where one prototype has been received and built. Errors on the prototype has been fixed, and the second prototype board is being laid out at this moment.

See The Human Comparator site for details. on the Two Thousand Six Hundred project.

  1. This looks awesome. If it really sounds like a 2600 I’d seriously consider buying it. Look forward to hearing more.

  2. It is a close replica of the original circuits with the exception of the speaker amplifiers, according to the site. The board with no case is going to be around $1000 or so it seems.

  3. amazing looking piece of kit, kind of like a terminator without it’s skin… wish we had better sound though, naked 3″ speakers suck!

  4. What a great project. That’s not just DIY, its downright OCD! 😀 Its still worth it to have your hands in it to that degree, though. I’m sometimes a bit puzzled when people build such things, because all that’s missing from the numerous emulations is the smell of solder and ozone. That leaves only one other reason: the weird magic of the real thing. If you feel stuck between modulars and slab synths, a 2600 is still one of the best nerve centers around. The new MS-20 is a classy item. Someone needs to do a production “2600” next.
