Zynaptiq Unfilter Removes Filtering Effects

Zynaptiq has introduced Unfilter, an adaptive tonal contour linearization effect plug-in for Windows and Mac that lets you remove the effects of filters, including comb filtering, resonance, or excessive equalization – effectively linearizing the frequency response of a signal automatically.

Unfilter can also copy a detected filter response and apply it to another signal, or export it to disk as an impulse response file (WAV), and can perform mastering grade adaptive, free-form, and graphic equalization.

Applications include removing room resonance, repairing poorly mic’d production sound or musical recordings, enhancing the intelligibility of speech recordings in film sound, broadcast, ENG and forensics, adapting multiple sounds to blend better with each other, adaptively re-balancing the frequency response of mixed music, general purpose high resolution automatic equalization, and creatively designing new sounds.

Features:

  • Automatically detect and remove resonances, equalization, roll-offs and the effects of comb filtering from musical, location, dialog and surveillance recordings.
  • Apply the measured filter response to other signals to place them in the same ‘acoustic world’.
  • Export the measured filter response to or import it from a linear- or minimum-phase impulse response file (WAV).
  • Mastering grade adaptive, free-form and graphic equalization.
  • Extremely steep 96dB/octave shelving high-pass filter.
  • Output limiter for unsupervised use in batch processing applications.
  • Highly time-efficient workflow and UI.

Zynaptiq Unfilter is available now for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/RTAS/AAX) for US $399 USD / 369 EUR. A demo version is available.

  1. This is amazing.

But I frea the people who are used to pay no more than 99cents for an app will hate the pricing on this one.

  2. $ 399??!!! Holy crap!! For one single plug in….. That must really be a magic unfilter. Even though it actually does what it shows, I am not sure I think its worth that much. Unless I would have alot of old tapes laying around in need of serious clean up.

    1. For the amount of advanced DSP they must have created for this and the limited audience I would say it is worth the money even though I can’t afford it.

  3. I concur. this seems a great tool, and I’d see as a great help to remix or creative uses, but the price does not seem in line with other plugging (unless you’re called Waves or have established fame), and for that money you get a very decent sequencer with a lof of VST’s …

    1. That’s a very strange approach. Unfilter isn’t a DAW, and it isn’t any other plug-in. Sure, you can buy a DAW and “a lot of VSTs”, but … you can’t do what Unfilter does. So where does that leave the analogy?

In no-mans land, really. Unfilter isn’t a replacement for anything else, it does a very specific job.

  4. Doesn’t seem that out of line price-wise considering its intended audience. Think mastering house, sound studio for film, etc where the incoming source material might be compromised in some way. The savings in time from traditional methods for recovery (applying multiple EQ, sweetening, stereo imaging etc filters or even re-recording) would easily make up for the price. Seems pretty magical!

    1. Agreed. It is very expensive for a typical electronic musician, but it is quite cheap for people in post-production or forensic audio analysis. My ‘day job’ is doing audio for film – mostly production sound but also post-production, and this is an absolute must-have.A couple years ago the only possible option was to buy a box from Cedar, and those cost thousands.

I am moderately expert in both the theory and technique of noise removal and signal reconstruction, eg getting listenable sound of old 78-RPM records and so forth – it’s not my specialty, but I’d rate my skill at 7 out of 10, where 10 is world class. To have this level of performance in a plugin astounds me. I promise you that every post-production audio facility is going to have a copy of this in short order.

  5. For the guys that really need this, the price won’t matter because it will save so much time.

I’d like to see a cheaper version go the rest of us though. This would be great as a creative tool or for remixing.

  6. Well, I definitely can’t afford it, but $399 seems reasonable for what it does. I had no idea removing filters was even possible!

  7. This is certainly cool but that pitch map, my goodness. That is PERFECT for remixing. I need to try that demo. My wallet weeps.
