Korg Volca Beats Overview

This video, via KORG, is an overview of the new Korg Volca Beats drum machine.

Presented by its hardware designer and chief engineer, Tatsuya Takahashi, the video shows off some of the real-time edits and automation functionality of the Volca Beats.

The Volca Beats is expected to be available in July 2013 for a U.S. street price of $149.99. Additional product information is available at Korg.com

  1. Very good separation of drum parts; not muddy at all. I don’t think there’s any way to pan each drum individually, so this clarity is surprising to me.

  2. This reminds me, I still have a Korg ER-1 Electribe (original version). Some of the feature set is similar. I don’t know if this box features it, but I hope they included an erase instrument button for pattern function. There is nothing more maddening in the ER-1 than to have a four-bar pattern that you want to erase instrument hits out of, and you have to go through each bar and tap on the buttons to turn them off again. I got spoiled by this feature in the Yamaha RY30, a more sophisticated box. Of course if the Volca doesn’t feature it for the price, I’d understand.
