Bitwig Studio + Livid Base

Livid has been working with the latest beta of the upcoming Bitwig Studio and has its Base controller working with it.

Here’s what they have to say about the combination:

We’ve been working hard integrating the Base (and our other controllers) into the upcoming Bitwig Studio. We’re pretty excited that with the latest beta, we were able to get an easy-to-use step sequecer up and running with their JavaScript API. This will ship natively in future Bitwig releases. This video shows how some of this stuff works along with some of the other bells and whistles that you’ve come to expect!

  1. Ableton will never let Bitwig be released, it will stay in beta for ever! Those ex Ableton staff are bound to have used some IP, even by accident- unless they have a lot of money Ableton will b able to tie them up in court until they run ou of money.

    1. I completely agree. Look at the incredible similarities everywhere–the ‘Drum Rack’ is almost identical in every way to Ableton’s layout. I love that BitWig is trying to pressure Live into making a better product–my complaints are many–but this looks like an open-and-shut legal case of intellectual property theft to me.

      1. As long as they did not actually steal any code from Ableton, there should be no problem at all. Take a look at the similarities of other sequencers. And seeing that it is completely modular and also runs on Linux makes it more than unlikely that they stole source code but developed it from scratch. However, i’m not a (german) lawyer.

  2. They seriously need to improve the music in their promo videos.

The Synth UI looked like something from the Reaktor User LIbrary but with Maschine MK1 colours.

    1. At NAMM, they said it would not be released until the end of the summer at the earliest, but they were definitely going to do a release this year.

My take us that it hasn’t been delayed, but they announced it to early.

    1. Would that be a bad thing?

Not sure if they’ve announced pricing, yet, though. Also, if you saw their NAMM walk through, this looks more powerful than Live.
