Portal, Payday … And Cakewalk’s Sonar X3

sonar-x3-steamMusic software developer Cakewalk has announced the availability of SONAR X3 on the game delivery platform Steam.

Steam, the brainchild of game developer Valve, has more than 50 million users around the world and offers more than 2,000 titles.

Sonar X3 is the first major professional digital audio workstation to debut on Steam.

“Our Music Creator 6 Touch and Z3TA+ 2 virtual instrument were well received by the Steam community earlier this year,” Cakewalk President, Michael Hoover, said. “Based on the success of these previous titles, it’s clear there’s also a need for the professional features Sonar X3 brings.”

    1. This seems to happen on Steam from time to time. Sometimes they are deploying the product for one platform at the time but other times it seems like the Mac port is produced/published by a third part and that there are some rightsy stuff going on. Compare with Batman: Arkham Asylum which is available in the Mac App store but not for OS X on Steam while Arkham City is on both platforms on Steam.

  1. I reluctantly use cubase, for midi sequencing of hardware. It is for me 90 percent bloat ware .
Cubase back in the day was better and more solid than the crap they make now. Lets hope a company will give us a midi only sequencer one day for those of us using hardware.

  2. I cant speak for everyone, but Ive been using Cubase since the 90’s and v7.5 is the most stable version of Cubase Ive ever used. Definitely the most feature rich version as well, with features that I actually WANT to use.

If youre using a “bloated” version of Cubase for just midi sequencing, why not just use the older version that’s more solid? In fact, there are a myriad of scaled down sequencers available that can do what you want… Reaper is less than 10mb and would more than handle any possible midi sequencing need. Traction is another. Hell, Anvil Studio has unlimited midi tracking and its free.
