Reverberations – A 12-Disk Retrospective Of The Music Of Pauline Oliveros

Reverberations: Tape + Electronic Music 1961-1970 is a 12-CD retrospective of the music of electronic music pioneer Pauline Oliveros. The set has been out of print and a is getting rereleased via a Kickstarter campaign.

Reverberations is a 12 disc collection of Pauline Oliveros’ early and unreleased electronic work, including her very first piece for tape made in 1961. The majority of these pieces have never before been released.

Oliveros helped found the San Francisco Tape Music Center; in the 60s, has taught music at Mills, UofC, Oberlin & Rensselaer; and her electroacoustic music has explored improvisation, meditation, psychoacoustic space and the idea of ‘deep listening’.

Organized chronologically by studio, this set not only documents Pauline’s earliest electronic music but it also functions as an early history of electronic music itself. Liner notes including essays from Pauline Oliveros, Alex Chechile, Ramon Sender, David Bernstein, Corey Arcangel and Benjamin Tinker.

The 12-cd box set is available to backers, starting at $100, via the campaign site.

  1. Saw her perform (on processed accordion) at AC Entertainment’s Big Ears Festival in Knoxville a few years back. Great performance, and got to talk to her for a bit afterwards. A national treasure.
