The Sensual Synth Sounds Of The Waldorf Streichfett String Synthesizer

This video, via Jürgen Driessen, is an exploration of the new Waldorf Streichfett String Synthesizer.

While other synths offer monophonic, polyphonic or even paraphonic synthesis, the Streichfett might be characterized as pornophonic – designed to create the  the ‘adult’ sound of vintage string synthesizers.

According to Waldorf:

The Waldorf Streichfett combines the best of the now extinct species of String Synthesizers of the 70s and early 80s.

Its dual sound engine features a fully polyphonic strings section and a monophonic solo section, which, according to Waldorf, is ‘essential for recreating how adult movies sounded thirty years ago’.

Technical details:

All synth sounds in the video are created by the new Waldorf Streichfett. Drums by Jürgen Driessen. No additional FX were used on the synths, only some EQ & compression.

The Streichfett is available now, priced at €279.00 EUR.

  1. While it certainly sounds sexy, and certainly more flexible than I imagined… Why are the percussion sounds the loudest?

  2. build quality, anyone? .. would love to get this but if its gonna fall apart like the other walfdorf gear im not interested..

    1. It is built like a tank! A fish tank, that is.

Just kidding. If it is built like the excellent Pulse 2, it will be solid.
Great sounds!! Assuming it is analog, no?

  3. Very tempting. Waldorf quality is good in my opinion. I’m still drooling over the Q. Blofeld is a little tank…but the knobs are a little wobbly. That’s my only complaint. Great sounds when you need unique sounds. I’m tempted to get this but I’m not sure what this can do that blofeld can’t, and I currently need an analogue more as I already have my digitals. I’m looking at Pulse 2 or evolver…I’d even settle for mopho. I’d look at microbrute but it doesn’t have patch storage so for live or quick and dirty sound production / track recording that’s not so effective.

The sterichfett fills an important niche even though I’m not sure how necessary it is. I like what I’ve heard in other demos. In this demo I understand why they used percussion to show how this fits in and the whole porn soundtrack vibe, but the demo should’ve Had a section with just the string sound by itself. If I see one in a store I’m not sure id be able to not pick it up.

  4. Totally yummy! Saving pennies for this now, unless mr Rolf from Tempo Rubato makes an iOS friendly version:) very dreamy deep sounds!

  5. So that €279 translates as £223 which is a steal, is this a “plug in and play” synth that doesn’t need syncing with bloody desktop? I’m seriously considering this one

  6. So this is the second play demo with a very definite ‘Art of Noise’ sound. Makes me even more interested in this synth!

  7. Great little synth, I tried it out at the MusikMesse, eminently tweakable & fun. It’s also sturdy & well-built and won’t fall apart unless you treat it really badly (there’s no such thing as idiot proof). I believe they actually took on board a suggestion I made that the solo voice can either be in the bass or treble if the keyboard is split.

  8. Every Streichfett demo sounds like the FX are too bad to match the classic sounds.
We know its all about analog FX when it comes to classic analog string machines.
You can take any programmable digital synth and a analog ensemble FX and it sounds ways better than anything i hear in this demo.

      1. I think it depends on what kind of way you want it to sound… I agree that the FX ruin it… way too digital sounding for my liking.

Try throwing an Electro Harmonix phaser on an minent 310 Unique organ the way Jarre did it on his first albums, and then recreate this with the Streichfett… that’s a sound I’d like to hear the Streichfett imitate, but nothing I’ve heard thus far from the Streichfett has the warmth and same swirling sensation.

I’m not diss’ing the Streichfett though… probably a very good synth for the money, and it’s lightweight, has MIDI, and take up a hell of a less space than an old Eminent Organ… which is also why I’m disappointed with the sound of the Streichfett… I’d really have liked this to be capable of making my Eminent obsolete for me… it’s just not the case as for the demo’s I’ve heard yet.

But I am a stringer>ensemble>phaser>delay feinschmecker, so the Streichfett ma suit other users just fine… and it’s a good price too.

    1. The cheapest RS-09’s on eBay have “issues”. The others cost more than this. Also, vintage gear = vintage headaches. I’d rather have something reliable that gets the job done.
