Tristan Perich: Mind the Machine

Tristan Perich: Mind the Machine is a video profile of visual artist and composer Tristan Perich.

Perich is best known for his series of 1-bit electronic works, including 1-Bit Music and 1-Bit Symphony.

According to Perich, his work is inspired by the aesthetics of math, physics and code.

Perch’s 1-Bit Music (2004) was the first album ever released as a microchip. 1-Bit Symphony is an electronic composition in five movements on a single microchip, enclosed in a CD case.

As a visual artist, Perich has created mixed-media works, like Interval Studies, and generative machine art, like Machine Drawings.

  1. I remember the post from 4+ years ago about the 1-bit symphony project, but hadn’t until this refreshed my memory. Nice to see a little background on the creator.

  2. Discussion about code hitting the real world (gravity, pen inertia, paper texture) at about 3 mins is exactly analogous to difference between a vst and an analog synth….
