GForce Intros Oddity 2, Transports ARP Odyssey ‘Into A New Dimension’

GForce has announced Oddity2, a major update to their modeled version of the classic ARP Odyssey synthesizer, manufactured between 1972 and 1981.

According to GForce, Oddity2 “transports the spirit of the original into a new dimension.”

New In Oddity2:

  • While the duophonic and monophonic modes have been retained, Oddity2 now also offers a monophonic legato mode which wasn’t evident on the Odyssey, plus a polyphonic mode.
  • Furthermore, via three filter modes and an additional oscillator, Oddity2 can sound as versatile and punchy as its main rival back in the day.
  • In order to overcome the original instrument’s limitation of a single LFO, GForce has added the ability to apply an additional LFO and ADSR to almost any of the main Oddity2 sliders, which gives the instrument new sound design options.
  • Additional improvements over its predecessor include an on-board delay, spread or random pan modes, patch morphing via beats or seconds, program change recognition and implementation of the two octave transpose switch for dynamic real-time performances.

Here’s a video playlist that introduces Oddity2:

Oddity2 will be available Dec 1st, and can be preorded now. See the Gforce site for details.

  1. This thing is mental!!! You can modulate almost any parameter with an LFO separately, and apply an envelope over it, in addition to all the extra changes that have been made. You can make some immensely complicated evolving sounds from it when you dig deep and wrap your head around it. I don’t use the term ‘must-buy’ much but on this occasion it deserves it.

  2. I’ve been using M-Tron Pro for about a year and a friend has used MiniMonsta for a bit longer. We agree that GForce plugs are true to the originals, with expanded features that feel like real synth lovers crafted them. No dongles required, polyphony where there was once only mono and responsive customer service make them the go-to for anything they sell, IMO. They basically zig where Arturia zags, as with the OSCar. I’ll be curious to see how this stacks up against Korg’s hardware version when it appears. This will be my wallpaper for a while, yeh boy.

    1. No, Skywalker, GForce uses a serial number entry system. THANK YOU! I never crack, as dishonesty is doubly sh*tty when most gear is crazy-inexpensive. I’m humbled by other people’s skills and prefer to reward that. I had a bad iLok experience that sends me AWAY from products using them. That’s the only reason I do not own Arturia’s Jupiter-8V. Again, GForce is also very customer-responsive, same as Camel Audio & Apple. Good tools + good service from people who are as wild for this stuff as WE are = sales at my house. Thumbs-up to those who give quality PR as part of your buy.

  3. I still use Oddity 1 to this day. It’s not got the best oscillator and filter models in the world (a bit thin and wiry), but somehow that doesn’t stop it being funky as hell.

    1. Sendy, I agree. I first owned a MiniMoog, but a pal had a white Odyssey, so I understood it when George Duke said that the Moog was more masculine where the ARP was more feminine. That’s subjective, but also oddly accurate, feel-wise. I rarely use purely analog sounds solo these days, but as a VST/AU, I’m always layering them with samples and wavetables. For example, you might think that layering two electric guitar patches would be muddy, but I have 2 weaklings who grow big muscles as a team. The chaotic beef of blending is a beautiful thang. That’s why I always recommend at least one synth from each of the 5 basic food groups. No ONE will do it all, but quite often, two or three together will hyper-dimensionally open the fridge and levitate you a beer so you don’t have to stop your work flow. 😛

  4. Great news! By news I mean having more VST news in here? Ipad is nice but there’s so much happening in the plugins world that is not covered here.

  5. What a good video. You can see that these guys love their synths…….look at that rendering!
The synth looks so good and the demos are really classy.

    1. No I don’t think so plasma for a few reasons, 1., it’s a different company with a soft version competing with what they are trying to sell, and mainly 2. I think it’s been reported that the knobs and faders on the korg version will not send or recieve midi, as that would require all sorts of additional modifications to the original,… that’s also why it’s not going to have recallable presets etc.. It certainly would be cool if it could though!

  6. I love everything GForce touches, can’t give them enough joyful props for what they do, but what is this kind of music in the beginning of the video, I hear it in almost all demo videos, what kind of music is that?

  7. Welcome back GFORCE!!!! with a bang! I LOVE the oddity, and despite it’s age etc, it still finds itself in a lot of my tracks. there is a certain color to it that I can’t get with anything else. I hope they have improved the preset management system! But these guys make GREAT products, and I am very excited about this!

  8. I wonder if the imminent release of the hardware version of the Odyssey by Korg has triggered this “juiced up” version…just to be “one up” on the original hardware…either way GForce makes the best vsti synths out there. they sound REAL. Arturia always sounds like theyre using the same digital-sounding oscillator in every plugin they make

  9. The video where he shows how to use the XADSRs to fade in each oscillator separately really shows how potential they have unlocked here with this massive upgrade.

  10. I love GForce Software’s products! Have all of them except M-Tron Pro (need to get that soon). Already pre-ordered. 🙂

  11. I’ve had five Odysseys over the years, all black / gold or black / orange models. I’ve had Oddity since it’s release and it is without doubt the closest emulation I’ve tried, although I always missed the PPC controls.
I’ve only had Oddity 2 for a couple of days and am so far impressed all over again – the sound really is superb. The PPC emulation is spot on and the portamento 90% there – it doesn’t quite (yet) capture the way real Odysseys slow down towards the end of their portamento travel.
The only issue I’ve had is a hanging note – whenever D2 is pressed, the virtual ‘key’ stays down and the note sustains endlessly. I need to explore this more but none of my other plug-ins do it.
Things I would like: a built-in flanger, the abillity to select alternative audio interfaces for the stand alone version, and like ALL vsti’s, the ability to enlarge the GUI to full screen.

  12. GUI is terrible for a PC if it was actual hardware id understand but design like this for pc is crazy – that being said it sounds nice
