  1. What this wont fix is Logic’s laborious, clunky interface. After using Logic for 5+ years, I recently switched to Ableton w/ Push and could not be happier. I’m more productive, work faster, and best of all, have fun.
Logic is just too much work to use. Everything about Logic makes me feel like I’m taking the longest, hardest, most complex route from A to B. When you finally sit down in front of a tool that makes you feel and act like a musician, Logic just feels like a nuisance.

    1. Ha ha ha !!
Can you please explain me how do you do a complex mix in Ableton? It is cumbersome to say the least let alone the crappy summing sound

        1. I have found that also. Ableton is great as a creative tool but mixing is laborious. I also agree that I have never found a better sound in any daw than logic with an apogee sound card. Pure butter mix.

    1. I would suggest you to re-read again and maybe some reviews. There is a host of substantial changes, enhancements etc. included in this .1 upgrade. And yes… it´s free. So you might wanna try for yourself and find out.

  2. That’s the same way I feel about Abelton: Pain to Use from A to B
Wouldn’t trade Logic for anything, and I’ve tried the others just to test the waters, no dice.

  3. Nothing substantial? You obviously dont use Logic very often, xrx. The piano roll is massively improved, automation on regions are a long time comming for everybody that works with sounddesign of any sorts and you can finaly organize your plug-ins. I’ll give you substantial.

  4. Looks like Cubase 8 , seems Steinberg is going the right direction. Apple follows. That´s a lot bang for the buck for Mac users. Competition is great for us, the customers. I love capitalism. I love consumption. Viva la revolution 😉

    PS: The update is free

    1. Logic pro x
      Released july 16 2013

      Cubase 8
      Released december 3 2014

Totally see your point, daws as with people absorb great ideas, only time I’d call out a company or individual is when they totally focus on one source and claim originality.

  5. good news from my favourite DAW!! For comercial music, film scoring and real notation and control of external synths Logic and Cubase are the best.

  6. Superb update. Actually I went the other way around, from using Ableton for years, back to Logic X for production. It really is a comfortable DAW with a great array of tools nowadays. The new compressor in this update sounds just great.

  7. Did they ever fix the problems with denormalized numbers overloading the CPU during reverb tails? I keep looking for this listed in a fix and it’s been a problem since Logic 8, the first Intel release. (The PPC’s floating point unit doesn’t go slow handling denormalized floats, so this wasn’t a problem before 8.)

Would also be nice to see all the really obvious and clear bugs in the Environment to get fixed (such as cables not redrawing properly), all of those have been in there since the Atari days.

Addressing the timing problems might be nice too, some think this is a conspiracy theory, but it’s well documented, as in the article at www eigenzone org/2012/12/04/midi-jitter.

  8. One big piece of news is that redmatica’s Autosampler lives again in the Mainstage update! It doesn’t appear to be part of Logic, but the $30 for Mainstage is still cheaper than the $99 I paid for Autosampler.

    1. Wow, Autosampler sure appeared quickly after Apple bought Redmatica’s assets. It allowed me to save the Best Of from some old hardware that was about done in, as well as a similar folder for my software synths. Having them in EXS24 form has added some superior grease to my work flow. I can’t praise that enough. I’ll pay for it in that form and I have almost zero personal use for Mainstage proper. That’s how useful it really is. I hope it will lead to more libraries appearing for the EXS. If you’ve never had the Redmatica experience, get set for some fun. Its a slow process to sample things in usable depth, but this is The Right Tool for it. Just a tip from a happy user.

As to the detractors, all I can do is shrug. I tried a couple of DAWs that never FELT good to me. Logic does, more all the time. Also consider that no matter what you use, it takes X amount of time to really get fluid with it. Live’s GUI looks like pop-art rather than a working musical interface, TO ME. The difference is that I can see Live’s merits and respect ’em. Hating anything much beyond crappy customer service or a terrible hardware build is like yelling at one of your own toes. Its about ease of use as much as function now. Most DAWs have an analog mixer surface in them because that’s how human hands basically work, at the end of the day. Why anyone moans about it at all is beyond me, because there are easily 10 or more choices in every area except additive and even that can be had in some useful forms, low and high. I loved the recent “Simpsons” about fracking, where Marge, the lone voice of reason, keeps saying “Our WATER was on FIRE!” You lot can have near magic at your fingertips for little more than relative pocket change and you’re MAD? Heh… you’re missing the point in a really WHITE way, spud! GForce just turned their original ARP Oddity into a serious poly-capable beast where Korg’s hardware reissue is all about Vintage Lust and ultimately, less musically flexible. I’ll take well-integrated, utilitarian improvements over surface zazz any day.

      1. It’s nice to see Auto Sampler integration with MainStage, but it’s a severely limited version at best when compared with the original app. Hopefully a future release of Logic Pro will include a more advanced version…

    2. If you own Logic X you will be pissed if you paid $30 for MainStage if all you wanted was the autosampler. The autosampler is buried in the menu within LPX. Open a MIDI track and add an instrument, look in the Au Instruments\Appl\Ausampler

    3. True, Garageband 6.0.5 and earlier versions have little in common with Logic Pro X. However, if you are running Yosemite and have the latest version of Garageband (10.0.3), it is essentially Logic Pro X “Lite”.

  9. I cannot understand why there cannot be a limited demo for this. I would have been happy to test Logic after I found working with Live and external synths is a pain in the ass, but it seems that Apple doesn’t want me to become a customer. I won’t pay 200 to test a software.

  10. Why not a proper build-in Bridge for 32 bits plug-ins instead of buying an expensive one?
    I don’t get it.

    Nice update though…

    1. Come on dude, Apple isn’t going to waste resources supporting obsolete plugins just so you can keep using you Sylenth presets from the 00s…instead of getting mad at Apple why don’t you take it up with the loser plugin developers who can’t seem to update to 64bit?

  11. I did not upgrade to logic 10.0. This one may get me to upgrade. I will probably wait until I get a new mac to do so, so it may or may not happen this year. I think I want a new iPad first.

  12. WOW! The new EXS24 is outstanding. Apple really brought this antique piece of software to 2015. Time-Stretching, large scaleable UI, modern look. Thank you Apple, thank you!

      1. I made a joke about EXS24 🙂 The essential Sampler in Logic is not updated. Still like 2003. I have no idea why Apple keeps this historic piece of software. Maybe they lost the source code?!?

    1. It might be updated but I don’t use it so I couldn’t tell you. I am happy with synth plug-ins (I know they are effectively S&S) and creative manipulation of sounds I sample myself and work on with plug ins etc. What is missing that you can’t do another way creatively? Get creative

  13. Can someone please tell me how i update?I cant find this anywhere, all the site does is offer to sell logic pro x for full price?anyone supply a direct link? thanks

    1. If you click the link to view it in ITunes and then go to your purchases tab and look for the Logic Update link to click to install.
