Cory Henry Performs ‘Heart At Midnight’

At the 2015 NAMM Show, Korg introduced the new Kronos workstation keyboard and their reissue of the ARP Odyssey synthesizer.

Korg’s official release event featured several performances on the new keyboards, including this jazz jam by Cory Henry

In this video, Henry performs his song, Heart At Midnight, using both of the new keyboards. The song is from his album Gotcha Now Doc.

A notable aspect of Henry’s performance is the way he ‘plays’ the Odyssey’s sliders throughout, changing settings on the filter cutoff, resonance, envelopes and more.

  1. Asome genius. Sr Henry Cory. Give him some years, he is redifining keyboars in fussion.
Korg, you can fire the robot J. Ruddes.

    1. Good call. I used to love Dream Theater, and would not be who I am today if it weren’t for Kevin Moore and Derick Sherinian, but Cory Henry needs to sit Jordan Rudess down and have a little talk. This video, in which a man is armed to the teeth with explosive synths and noise makers, proves that good keyboard playing is about making music, real music, not what happens when you give a carnie some speed and a ribbon controller.

  2. That recording is awful.

Really wish that they would hire someone to professionally produce these videos rather than relying on Random Joe with his iPhone.

    1. It’s not 3x the price. The Odyessey is $999, the MS20 is 599. The MS 20 is decent but I have a feeling the Odyessey is built a bit better.

  3. He must have a custom made Karp, because from what I’ve read from all the keyboard virtuosos here and on Gearsluts, it’s impossible to play anything on toys with mini keys.

    1. You continue to make disparaging remarks about people who don’t like mini keys as if we are WRONG to prefer a keyboard that we prefer. Not being a virtuoso makes me dislike mini keys even more, I have just enough talent in my hands to play the full sized keys that I’ve been playing for 30 years. Given the reality and time constraints of daily life I can: A-spend my limited music making time learning to play mini keys or B-spend my limited music making time playing a keyboard I like and working on new music. I choose B.

I’m sure that a virtuoso like yourself can adapt to any keyboard and play well, I can’t. One could give YoYo Ma a 3/4 sized cello and he probably will sound amazing. I’m not YoYo Ma.
btw, are you the Daniel J Davis AKA Carl Sagan’s Ghost? If so I really enjoy your music. I think your attitude sucks, but enjoy the music.

      1. I’m just poking fun of what has become a cliche with a ridiculous request. Fighting ridiculousness with ridiculousness.

Thanks for liking my music, but I’m no virtuoso! I’m actually a pretty terrible musician who relies on the same key and passages far too often for my own good. 🙂

        1. But how is it ridiculous that if they are going to go through the trouble of recreating a classic synth, one that is renowned for it’s performance capabilities, that they put keys on it that I think the majority of us perform better on? (and before someone criticizes my math, no I haven’t done a scientific study, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to assume that keyboard players like full sized keys)
It’s like bringing back a classic car in all of it’s glory and putting the steering wheel on the wrong side. Sure, I can learn to drive that way, but why do it in the first place?
