MultitrackStudio For iPad Adds 64-bit Support

ipad-daw-multitrackstudioMultitrackStudio for iPad – an iOS DAW – has been updated with 64bit support and more.

MultitrackStudio for iPad is a 16-track audio + MIDI DAW that supports Inter-App audio, AudioBus, and MIDI controllers.

Here’s what’s new in version 2.1:

  • Now includes 64 bits version (better performance).
  • On 64 bits iPads the Guitar Amp effect uses 4x oversampling instead of 2x (better sound).
  • Semi-transparent ‘Rewind’ / ‘To last start’ hints appear on touching transport counter box.
  • Onscreen MIDI keyboard is a bit smaller (except for Guitar and Drums layouts).
  • Height of full-size tracks is now automatically adjusted when MIDI keyboard appears or hides again.
  • Audiobus now works with 32 bits values instead of 16 bits.
  • Uses Audiobus 2.1.6 SDK.
  • Some graphics and user interface improvements.
  • Punch-in recording: transport now automatically starts at least one bar before punch-in point (2 seconds if editor timescale isn’t set to bars).
  • Improved MIDI recording compatibility (recording MIDI data from certain apps didn’t work).
  • Fixed: error message could appear after purchasing Pro Extension.
  • Fixed: issue with sending volume controllers (#7) to External MIDI Instruments

MultitrackStudio for iPad is available for US $29.99 in the App Store. ‘Pro’ features are available as an in-app purchase.

  1. Don’t let the plain GUI fool you, this is the most powerful audio & MIDI DAW for iPad. It has tons of pro features and is the most flexible music making tool I’ve seen for iOS. For composers, this is the one.

Multitrack Studio works well on my 4th gen iPad. By comparison, Auria puts a pretty heavy strain on my iPad. Perhaps the new Auria will bring pro MIDI editing (which MTS does very well), but I don’t expect it will suddenly have a lighter CPU footprint than the current version).

Multitrack Studio’s developer is active and responsive, posting pretty regular updates and bug fixes.

      1. LOL, I thought for sure his screen name would be Jordan_Rudess 🙂

Seriously though, I am in the market for a DAW on the iPad Air 2. Is this really the best there is?

  2. I know you’re just busting my balls and I definitely was channelling Jordon there.

I do lots of posts and try to share information with folks here. Usually, I’m pretty grouchy, critical and disappointed– by nature.. It is pretty rare when an app exceeds my expectations. Usually they don’t. In this case, this is a relatively unknown app with an ugly UI, and a hilariously minimalist icon. But because it does so many things quite well, I wanted make sure that if anyone was looking for an alternative to stupid Garageband, or stupid Cubasis, or no-MIDI Auria, that they should know about this.

In a way, I HATE my iPad. I was kind of coerced into getting through my job. But now that I’ve had it for some number of years, I am impressed by the cheapness and power of a handful of apps.
