Developer Erik Sigth has introduced Strng – a iOS string synthesiser, inspired by the Karplus-Strong algorithm.
In Karplus-Strong synthesis, an exciter impulse – like a burst of noise – is looped through a filtered delay line. This model can be used to simulate the way sounds resonate within some types of instruments.
With Strng, physical modeling starts with a short burst of noise that is then guided by a tuned delay buffer and string tension filter, generating plucked string-like sounds. No samples are used.
Strng is 16-voice polyphonic and can be controlled with an in-app 25 key chromatic keyboard. You can also connect a MIDI controller through USB or W\iFi.
To further shape the sound, two post-effects are available, a ping-pong stereo delay and two channel resonant filter, controlled by two LFOs.
Features:
- String synthesis engine
- 16 voice poliphony
- Audiobus
- IAA
- Core MIDI
- 25 multitouch keyboard
- Save/Load
- Gain control
- Tune, Detune control
- ADSR Attack/Decay/Sustain/Release
- Noise (length, sample crush)
- Noise pre filter
- String tension
- Stereo ping-pong delay
- Two channel resonant low pass filter LFOs
strng is available now for $1.99 in the App Store.
I’m surprised nobody has commented on this yet. Erik (humbletune) has made some really cool instruments and effects for iOS, but Strng is my favorite thus far. I just used it on track – my friend played it while I dynamically controlled the sustain parameter.
If you’re into new and different types of synthesis (Karplus-Strong falls into this category) and a simple, yet aesthetically pleasing user interface, definitely check out Strng. I’d easily pay $5 for it; for the price of two bucks,, you can’t lose.
Jeez, another crap demo for what may, or may not be a good synth.
Love the App Erik!!!! Thank you!!!
That demo is more than good enough! Just purchased. Loving it more than I expected.
Very nice. Plugin version please!
