Frederikson Labs has released Vosyr 2, an update to their free Mac/WIndows sample manager for the Korg Volca Sample.

Here’s what’s new in Vosyr 2:

  • Added preview sequencer for sequences.
Preview your sequences directly in vosyr and change patterns/parameters in realtime.
  • Added conversion for WAV and AIFF files.
WAV and AIFF files with 8/16/24/32 Bit bit depth will be automatically converted to volca samples bit depth and sampling frequency, if you add it to a sample slot.
  • Added sample waveform view with start and length parameters.
  • Added function for transfer of selected samples.
  • Added function for deletion of selected samples.
  • Added indicator for memory usage and duration to single sample slot.
  • Added solo function for parts.
  • Minor GUI changes and style improvements.
  • Stability and performance improvements.
  • Fixed minor bugs.

Vosyr is a free download.

  1. Woah! Make it an Audio Unit/VST plugin, add sample selection as a parameter, MIDI Learn functionality and charge a moderate amount of money for it. I would buy it right away. My MIDI controllers are waiting for it.

  2. This looks fantastic. Nice GUI and everything. Well done KORG!

Elektron needs something like this for the Octatrack. The fact that KORG can manage to make this for a vastly less expensive product, whilst Elektron has nothing, certainly puts a ruffle in my feathers (but I still love Elektron and the Octatrack).

    1. I don’t think Frederikson Labs is Korg, but it would be interesting if Elektron open sourced their stuff like Korg and see happens out there

    2. There is something exactly like this for the Elektron Octatrack – called Octaedit. Presently windows only, but is a superb piece of software.
Bit unfair to compare the Volca Sample with the Octatrack though. Its like comparing a pedal car to a lambourghini. Oh and dont forget the OT has been out for 5 years. Of course it is a little behind on some of the niceties we are seeing on modern kit – doesnt make it any less powerful.

  3. I didn’t realise something like this was available and free as well?!? Looks great and funnily enough I was wanting a way to sort out and convert samples on my PC for my volca. It would be nice if you could save banks of samples to load to your volca sample so you could prep it for a session. Does anyone know any software that does this?

  4. I wasn’t even aware the sequence memory was accessible from outside?! Caustic Editor for Volca Sample was already a great thing, but this one looks fantastic and exactly what I need, always being afraid of deleting something on a machine with no patch names.

    1. Agreed. This is sort of a game-changer for this device for me. I’m still wishing this unit ran on one MIDI channel, as I’d love to sequence it from the BeatStep Pro, but we can’t have everything.

  5. I don’t even have a volca sample but you can create and play back awesome motion sequenced patterns just using this app. Makes me want a volca sample now
