Erica Synths let us know that they’ve redesigned their Erica Fusion Series modules – a line of modules based on vacuum tubes.
Their new modules are configurable to work from the standard +-12V eurorack PSU, meaning, you don’t need to install special tube heater PSU.
The first two modules in the new line are the Fusion Ring Modulator, above, and the Fusion Mixer.
The new Erica Fusion Ring Modulator, above, is classic design ring modulator, with germanium diode ring and audio transformers in the modulator circuit. Germanium diodes enrich the sound by adding extra harmonic content, The vacuum tube adds ‘screaming overdrive’ to audio and carrier signals. They call it ‘one of the most versatile and esoteric ring modulators around.’
Here’s a video demo:
The Fusion Ring Modulator is priced at 210 € (ex. VAT). See the Erica Synths site for details.
The Erica Fusion Mixer module is designed to mix audio signals on the vacuum tube.
It can be used as two independent 3-input mixers (or as one 3-channel stereo mixer) or as 6-input mixer. The module adds tube saturation to any signal you put through it and when the knobs are set over 3 o’clock tube starts to distort the incoming signal without losing any of the low end frequencies.
The Erica Fusion Mixer module is available for 250€ (ex. VAT). See the Erica Synths site for more info.
Ring modulator make Mr.Trump sound cool…
I need that thing! So gooey, so spacey… great stuff, guys!
Well, it lets me imagine him in Star Wars, ordering the Death Star into position, but that wasn’t much of a stretch to begin with.
Dont tubes normally need 100’s of volts to run properly?
Not neccecarily; Some tubes will run happily at lower voltages; There’s a page about that sort of stuff here: http://www.junkbox.com/electronics/lowvoltagetubes.shtml
However, he may also have tucked a step-up converter somewhere in the module, and might be running off the same voltage as he was before; It’s hard to say.
