Edmund Eagan & The Continuum Keyboard At Superbooth 16

At Superbooth 16, Cuckoo caught up with composer, sound designer and EaganMatrix co-designer Edmund Eagan.

Eagan discusses the synthesis capabilities of EaganMatrix, combined with the Continuum, digs into custom patches, discusses support for MPE and then demonstrates the instrument.

The Haken Continuum is a musical instrument, designed by Dr. Lippold Haken, that allows unprecedented realtime performance control. With a greater pitch range than a traditional 88-note MIDI keyboard, the Continuum offers realtime continuous control in three dimensions, for every finger that is placed on the playing surface.

Details are available at the Haken Audio site.

  1. Had a go on the half sized Continuum at Superbooth. It’s an amazing instrument and very intuitive in use. It’s a very organic playing experience – my friend who is not a musician in the least was playing melodies with it in no time. I do have some concerns about the fabric of the touch surface getting dirty over time, but that point is moot since I can’t afford one… yet!

    1. The material is neoprene it can be cleaned with typical cleaning solutions just don’t spray it directly onto the instrument.

  2. I’ve got a half size one coming this week, so excited! Lippold Haken is a really nice guy learned a ton from him in the order process. I really hope more companies jump on board with MPE soon.
