Jean Michel Jarre – Oxygene 7 (Cover)

Sunday Synth Jam: This video, via Portuguese reader Miguel Fernandes, aka Starshipfive, captures his take on Jean Michel Jarre’s Oxygene 7 – recorded without using any of the classic gear that Jarre used.

Here’s what he has to say about his arrangement:

Jean Michel Jarre’s Oxygene album was for me the best album for this great synth Master. It has on every track some gorgeous ambient sounds impressive done with synths.

I tried to recreate the Oxygene 7 theme, without any gear that Jarre did. People tend to ignore covers that are not done with the same equipment….but it is possible to recreate a theme without using at all the original equipment.

Technical Details:

Sequenced parts done on Cubase 5, then passed to Roland SP-606 sampler and trigged on it.

Solina String Sound and Mellotron Sound Type: Kurzweil K2000 connected via midi to Roland JV-2080 (with Vintage Synth expansion board) and Roland V-Synth XT together.
Main Lead Sound: Roland V-Synth OS2
Effects: Yamaha AN1x and Roland JP-8000
Pad: Yamaha AN1x

  1. Sounds are really close. Timing of the manually played melody are pretty far behind where they should be, possibly due to the latency problems with digital synths.
