Ableton Announces Preliminary LOOP Lineup for 2017

Several weeks before the promised full program announcement, Ableton gave a sneak peek this morning at the lineup highlights for the Loop 2017 conference.

The third annual, three-day Loop summit for music makers is coming up November 10 – 12 in Berlin, and features performances, panels and presentations by artists, producers, educators and creative technologists.

Names announced today for the third annual Loop summit include:

  • Electronic musician/ producer Jlin
  • Composer, sound and video artist William Basinski
  • New York clubbing collective Discwoman
  • Keynote talks for Loop’s third edition come from Berklee professor and Prince’s audio engineer Susan Rogers

Expanding its territorial remit, Loop has reached out to African music and sustainability coalition The Nile Project, the first name to give shape to plans to include creative voices from around the world in its program of discussion about the current nature and future needs of music making.

Studio sessions announced. Attendees will also have the opportunity to join studio sessions with mastering engineer Mandy Parnell, who has worked with The XX, Aphex Twin, Bjork and Brian Eno. Electronic music producer, Machinedrum, will also be hosting studio sessions and discussing his creative process.

First technology partners come in the shape of LEAF Audio and Swedish innovators Teenage Engineering.

And Loop will again offer a comprehensive evening program, with Berlin clubbing institution Tresor recently announced as the venue for a diverse program of musical talent drawn from the summit’s daytime activities.

About Loop. Launched by Ableton in 2015, Loop is three days of performances, talks, and interactive workshops aimed at exchanging ideas at the cutting edge of music, technology, and creative practice. Bringing together artists, technologists, educators, and other creative thinkers, Ableton describes Loop as “a collective exploration of what it is to make music today and what it could be tomorrow.” You can browse highlights from previous Loop summits on the Ableton website, and here on Synthtopia.

Registration and additional Loop program information. Loop 2017 will be open to the public, but those wishing to attend must register to enter the ticket purchasing process. Registration is now open via the Loop website. The full Loop program, along with topics for talks, panels, workshops and performances, will be announced at the end of July.

  1. loop is a cult-like gathering due to the fact that it is not open to the general public. ableton decides if you can participate. reminds me of clearwater, florida.

    1. Last year’s event was fantastic and I think everybody who attended thought the same. Check out the unofficial Loop Facebook group to see what attendees really thought.

PS: If it’s a ‘cult’ because the event has a limited number of tickets, I’m having a tall glass of the Kool-Aid.

      1. please read this:

“If you apply for one of the tickets, you will be asked to provide additional information about yourself. We do want to make sure you’re active in your creative field.” https://loop.ableton.com/2017/register/

so ableton decides if you are “creatively active” or not. bwahaha, i´m sorry, but this kind of language reminds me of scientology´s application form.

    2. There’s likely some value-add for Ableton, but I’d prefer they funnel all possible effort into the next release. The NI’s Reaktor user community is amazing but there’s nothing like it for Ableton (read that as free modules/instruments that make that platform an evergreen of inspiration, learning, and creative output). Ableton COULD be a platform with a more integrated MAX environment, so time will tell. Perhaps that’s the pending value of LOOP for the wide-spread majority Ableton users. Otherwise, sound/fury signifying little.

      1. k-tronix, if you are looking for something like the reaktor user community, then you should probably check out maxforlive.com, it’s basically the same thing for the M4L community.
