Moog Prodigy Analog Synthesizer Hands-On Demo

This video, via RetroSound, is a quick audio demo of the Moog Prodigy keyboard synthesizer.

The Prodigy is a vintage synth from 1979 and, while it’s no Minimoog and is limited compared to many modern monosynths, it does what it does very well.

And, as the video demos, you can throw some delay on it and the results qualify for all the standard vintage synth superlatives: warm, phat, amazeballs – take your pick.

If you’ve used the Moog Prodigy, leave a comment and share your thoughts on it!

  1. Everything sounds great through an old memoryman…fab pedal.
I had a prodigy and it was very limited in scope, no noise gen etc, short keybed but at the time it was a cheap way to get a moog bass sound or lead. switched to a MS20 and it was a revelation.

    1. I agree. Wish people would stop demos with effects, or at least fully spate that stuff out.
Had one of these and it was not really anything special. Unloaded it for a Yamaha CS-5 and CS-10, that I CV together. Lots of variety in that setup, though it is rather large.

The best budget, vintage Moog (well sorta budget) is the Rogue with it’s awesome contoured sync feature. Anything you do on that synth is a nice bassline. Vintage prices is a bit much to pay for such a feature though.
