    1. “VCV has released a pair of commercial modules for VCV Rack, the free multi-platform software modular synthesizer.”

VCV Rack is a powerful, free modular synth. In addition to the free modules, it also supports commercial modules that you can purchase, like Pulse Matrix.

Sorry if that’s confusing – let us know if you have suggestions for how we can make that more clear for readers.

  2. Not altogether unexpected – was obvious they would need to try and commercialise it in some way going forward.

Seeing as up to now they’ve been using existing Open Source designs for their modules, will be interesting to see if Pulse Matrix has similar licencing ? Otherwise, they will no longer be able to describe themselves as an “Open-source virtual modular synthesizer”.

I also wonder if they will eventually move to making hardware through their links with Grayscale?

  3. We’ve taken all of mutable’s code for free … hey buy our modules.

and as said before .. “VCV Rack, the free multi-platform software modular synthesizer.”

    1. VCV Rack and its open source plugins will always be free and open source forever. I refuse to take donations for my project—donations are for those in need, like your local homeless shelter or drug rehabilitation center. However, many are happy to support my efforts, so instead of taking donations, I am giving them a plugin they might find useful if they are willing to finance my expenses for developing Rack in 2018. Those who cannot afford to support Rack are by no means obligated to buy my commercial plugins and may continue using Rack freely forever.
