New Software Modular, TAL-Mod, Now In Beta

Togu Audio Line (TAL) has announced TAL-Mod, a new modular virtual analog soft synth.

TAL-Mod is a virtual analog synthesizer with an exceptional sound and almost unlimited modulation possiblities. Its special oscillator model is able to create a wide range of sounds, from classic mono to rich stereo leads, effects and pads.

Routings can be done with virtual patch cables. Just connect a modulation output with a modulation target. After that it’s possible to adjust the intensity of the modulation. You don’t need to be a modular expert. The plug-in is suitable for beginners and experts!

  • 3 oscillators with optional saw, pulse, triangle and sine waveforms.
  • 1 additional noise oscillator with adjustable color.
  • 2 high quality analog sounding resonance filters with different modes (LP, HP, Notch, All Pass, BP).
  • Different filter routing possiblities (parallel and serial). With the possiblity to choose the oscillator sources.
  • Full stereo signal path.

  • 2 oscillators support hard sync for saw, pulse, triangle waveforms.

  1. It’s less “modular” and more “alternate UI for a mod matrix.”

    The oscillators don’t even have a patch point for the output, but are hardwired through the filter and VCA. That immediately kills a million things you can do with modular synths. The envelope generators don’t have gate inputs or control over segment times, and are hardwired to MIDI. And so on.

      1. Yeah, seems to be meant as a “Modulation Modular”. I think it’s a good idea for to keep things simple but still have some weird options. And the sound is quite good.

    1. My guess is that it’s $40 for the beta, then you get the full version (and all updates after that), for free.
      Or, you can wait and buy the full release when it’s out of beta, for $60.

  2. Given there is a FREE and totally fabulous VCV rack which has real hardware modules from Mutable Instruments and others ported from (open) source code, why would anyone bother looking else where if you wanted a modular simulator? https://vcvrack.com/

      1. VCV now links to the DAW with a built in bridge…audio and midi in and out…..
        If you want all the advantages of VST in a DAW I think fake wires and a skeuomorphic graphics are not the way to go…Aalto for example does it better.

          1. bridge works great actually. VCV is a great bit of software. I like TAL’s software, hes pretty good, but this really isnt a modular. its a semi modular at best.still is prob cool though

    1. Then go buy Reaktor, Aalto, Tassman, Zebra, or the Arturia Buchla clone – its not like there aren’t a slew of VST/AU modulars that do PD, FM, Physical Modelling, Wavetable, Sampling, Additive and more.

    2. As noted above, TAL isn’t calling this a modular. Or even calling it a semi-modular. That’s an editorial error (or interpretation) here at Synthtopia only.

  3. This is an amazing synth. Yes, nothing new in the surface, but with a lot of things to love: ease of use, not very cpu demanding, good sound… This is a vey well thought out semimodular. I have more than enough vst synths like many of you, but this deserves a try.
