Propellerhead Reason 10.1 Now Available – Here’s What’s New

Propellerhead Software today released Reason 10.1, the latest update to its Reason music production software.

Reason 10.1 is a free update for Reason 10 owners that features:

  • Sample loading in Reason’s flagship Europa synth, which provides a powerful new way for creating sounds.
  • Rack Extension SDK 3, allowing developers to create new and better Rack Extensions, including Player devices.
  • For a limited-time, Reason 10 owners can also get the new Drum Sequencer for free.

Reason 10.1 brings powerful new functionality to Europa, Reason’s flagship synthesizer.

Now you can load any sample and use as your waveform in Europa’s engines. Or load a sample in the Spectral Filter section and use the sample as the filter’s spectral multiplier.

Released in October 2017 with Reason 10, Europa is a spectral wavetable synthesizer plugin with an intuitive, easy-to-use interface.

Reason 10.1 also supports further development for the Rack Extension plug-in platform.

Rack Extension developers can now create new Player devices to join the popular Scales & Chords, Note Echo and Dual Arpeggio Players. The Propellerhead Shop features several brand new Players from third-party developers and Propellerhead, including the new Drum Sequencer. Add this Player to any instrument in the Reason rack and you’ll have quick and easy pattern-style drum programming for your favorite devices.

Drum Sequencer is free for Reason 10 owners until May 31, 2018.

  1. Reason is crushing. The Drum Sequencer is a small version of the Propulsion Rack Extension but its good small. With probability and repeats, its almost like programming on an Elektron device, just need some way to do P-Locks.

  2. Please make rack devices resizable or zoomable. The tiny tiny knobs on everything is redonkulous right now esp with 4k monitors.

  3. It’ll be interesting to see what 3rd party “players” show up.

“Drum Sequencer is free for Reason 10 owners until May 31, 2018.” – That’s not very long. Grab it while you can. Great too, easy to use.

    1. The regular quoted price of $69 seems rather steep for a fairly rudimentary sequencer. It’s nice that they’re giving it away to current R10 customers, but more so than any of the first-party rack extensions that have come before, this really feels like it should be part of the core package rather than a pricy add-on.

      1. I don’t think anybody will actually buy it. It’s more of the game for non-Reason 10 owners to think, “well if this is worth 69, then I can get the rest of what comes in Reason 10 for only 60 bucks more!. Deal! “You can’t even demo the Drum Seq unless you have Reason 10.1, so who the heck would buy it? Reason 10 owners already get it for free… You’re right, it should be a core device, but I suppose Propellerhead just wants money this May. (maybe to pay for the Superbooth bills… 🙂

    1. I’ve come back here a few times and laughed at titty sprinkles each time. My new phrase of the week. Thank you sir, or maam if your a woman named James.

  4. Reason sure has grown into a powerhouse. Still, I wonder how many people really apply their own sampling efforts to anything much besides drums and cartoon rips. Its a huge feature I rarely need. When I do, its often to build a specific kind of keyboard sound, not The Next Greatest Thing in sound design. Its easy to labor over a winning sound that ends up being another Digital Native Dance you can’t use much. I blame all of the great libraries. There’s so much there now, I just don’t need to sample often. Yeah, its titty sprinkles, but the great thing is that you’ve got the titty.

  5. Your right, its so jam-packed with presets and racks, I find it hard sometimes to just sample and create which is why i keep a hardware box close by and use reason for the mixing, blocks and rack extension compressors. I rarely get lost in those deep synths, its like why would you with about 2 million presets per device.

It is really funs to flip it around and patch cables and get weird but thats where hardware beats out software, limits are great when it comes to creating a sound, mangling and arranging that sound should be limitless.

    1. Sounds like a massive amount of work to update the entire interface, right? I mean, when you scale the rack, how is everything else affected, especially if your working with 1 monitor? Maybe zooming in on the rack is an option? I’d like that feature as well but I’ll take every update they have done since version 8 over scalable racks any day.
