Spacecraft Granular Synthesizer For iOS

Developer Mark Watt has introduced SpaceCraft, a new granular synthesis application for iOS.

Here’s what he has to say about it:

Transform any sound into a playable musical instrument via a technique known as Granular Synthesis. With SpaceCraft, you can create textures, soundscapes and arpeggiated rhythms from everyday sounds such as your voice, ambient noise or the high quality built-in audio samples.

Tap the ‘Import Audio’ button (top left) to record audio via your device’s microphone or load a file from your device (supports iCloud, Dropbox, Audioshare etc.). Experiment with turning everyday sounds into unusual instruments. Try recording your voice or ambient noise!

Tap the ‘rec’ button (top right) to record your performance (maximum 120 seconds). Your audio will be saved as a .wav file on your device in a location of your choice.

Supports Inter-App Audio (IAA). Compatible with Garageband.

There’s currently no audio or video demo for Spacecraft at the developer’s site.

Here’s an unofficial demo, via iPadLoops‘ Jason Donnelly:

Pricing and Availability

Spacecraft is available now for US $6.99.

If you’ve used Spacecraft, leave a comment and share your thoughts on it!

  1. Shazzammmm!! I love it!! Granulized the dog barking…cat meowing n the love birds chirping to the rhythm of ‘Ring My Bell’!!!

Honestly though I love the app n for a decent price! Big thanks to the developer!! Good work!!

  2. just a toy right now, as soon as you would like to get more serious, like using background audio, audiobus, AU or a defined tempo or scale, you’re already asking too much. also very buggy – on loading an external sample, it will crash.

    1. 99% of my loop and and sound design is bpm and divisions of bpm based so some kind of tempo control would be a plus for me but I have been using it non stop since I down loaded it and really like it for what it is.

I spent more for a gallon of gas than what his app cost me and 100x more at the casino last night, so its worth is obviously subjective.

As for the “Just a toy,” whatever lol, been creating awesome pads and soundscapes, recording them into Sound Forge and having a blast tweaking and manipulating even further.

      Awesome “toy” IMHO.

    2. It only crashes if you try and load a sample in the AUfx version. It imports fine Stand Alone or as IAAfx in AUM or GarageBand.

FWIW, dev is aware of it and on it.
