Analog vs Digital With VCV Rack – The ‘Nasty Details’

Reader Leonardo Laguna Ruiz shared this series of videos, where he compares three of his filter designs for VCV Rack (Vult filters) against their analog counterparts.

The filters are intended to be simulations not emulations. “The main difference is that in simulations,” notes Ruis, “I try to improve the behavior of the filters by adding or removing behaviors that I like or dislike.”

The first video, above, compares Tangents vs. Custom Steiner-Parker filter.

Next, Ruis compares Lateralus vs. Doepfer A-102 VCF9 & Vortex vs. Erica Synths Polivoks VCF:

Ruiz discusses the advantages and disadvantages of analog and digital versions of each filter design, and also discusses some of his design decisions in creating his digital filters.
