The StrumPad Is An Open-Source MIDI Controller That Lets You ‘Strum’ Your Synthesizer Like A Guitar

This video, via miro2424, demonstrates the StrumPad, a MIDI controller designed to let you ‘strum’ your synth like a guitar.

The device is an open source DIY project, based on the Arduino ATMEGA328. It receives MIDI IN messages like note on and note off from a MIDI keyboard controller and loads the data to 6 touch sensors.

When you ‘strum’ the StrumPad, it senses which ‘strings’ have been struck and how much force was exerted, and then sends MIDI OUT messages that can be used to control your MIDI synths.

Details are available at the project site.

  1. stop with all this midi controllers trying to be guitars and guitars trying to be synths and my girlfriend trying to be my wife. enough!

      1. thats fine if u want to stand up for the wannabe guitar players and their strummy controllers. Im standing up for the talented guitar players like myself that can actually play. dont be mad 🙂

  2. A bit difficult to execute, though. Needs access to a facility to etch a circuit board, and requires soldering. Not for everyone.
