Open Mic: Did ‘Synther Claus’ Pay You A Visit?

As 2018 nears its end, our wish is that you have holidays filled with family, health and peace.

And, yes, since it’s Synthtopia – maybe some wicked new gear under the tree, that new app that you’ve been wanting or some great new electronic music….

So, leave a comment and let us know if ‘Synther Claus’ paid you a visit this year!

  1. Misses Claus doesn’t know too much about synths, so I treated myself this year to a Behringer D and, so far, I am favorably impressed. The build quality seems pretty decent and it sounds fantastic.

The only complaint I have is the lousy panel layout – it’s like they used a Xerox to shrink the faceplate of a real Moog, instead of designing a panel that makes good use of the space!

  2. Santa nailed it and I unwrapped a new IK Multimedia UNO today. I’ve got to work tomorrow, though, so I don’t think I’ll be able to try it until at least tomorrow night.

  3. My wife got me a CS-80 in mint condition! Wasn’t expecting this, dunno where i’m gonna put that one, probably between last year’s Jupiter 8 and the Neve console… Merry Christmas everyone!

  4. Santa Claus got me the Reason 10 upgrade and a couple of deeply discounted plugins (and a Blue Ray of the wonderful animated film made by ILM, “Rango.” It is one of the best animated films ever made, at least it is one of the funniest.)

  5. I bought myself the Kilpatrick Redox reverb unit. I’d been circling the Big Sky all year but pulled the trigger on Redox for its performance capabilities and so I wouldn’t have the same reverb as everyone else.

There’s almost nothing out there on it, so I’ll try to post some demo vids this week.

  6. No visit from Synther Claus, but my wife got me a couple of MI modules I’ve been eyeing for a while, so I see some an extended patch session in the near future!

  7. Lol gifted myself this year.

I managed to score a Black Friday deal on a Deepmind 12 and I have been loving it. Just hope that it doesn’t go the way of my Behringer mixer.

  8. Seems most needed to buy themselves a musical gift, me too. Alright Devices’ Chronoblob V2 to pair with my V1. Oh and a used Alesis Power Conditioner.

  9. No synth. I got a Kalimba with a groovy pickup on it. Plug it into my Focusrite 18i20 and pluck away. Sounds great with some neato Ableton effects on it. No batteries, no power cable, no midi… but a great tone!

  10. It was a software only kind of year over here, and only stuff I got for myself. I picked up Arturia Pigments and Spitfire Phobos. I’ve had some great visits in the past though. In 2015 Syntha Claus (aka my wife) surprised me with a Minimoog Voyager XL. She’s been asking for a pony ever since.

  11. Another IK Uno here…unlike Jert, I’ve had at least a little time to play with mine…and it’s a bargain for the price. Add it to a Logic channel strip with some EQ, Chromaverb, Tape Delay and the occasional Eventide Quadravox…and you have Stratosfear-era Tangerine Dream in the palm of your hand….

  12. Last night I found a grey faced, full sized kARP Odyssey, with the teeny sequencer. It was on Amazon for $799.00. I jumped right on it. These were going for twice that until very recently. Then I discovered that the full sized ones had vanished off of Sweetwater since Christmas.

    Merry New Year!

Now where is the shipping notice for that ContinuuMini?

  13. I was my own Synther Claus, but got some utilities instead of synths: a Powerfactor for my 3 Eventide pedals, and a loop switcher, for better effects routing.
