IK Multimedia has announced that SampleTank 4, the latest edition of its workstation synthesizer, is now available.
Working with multiple sounds has been made easier with a new dedicated Layer interface that enables setting up layers and split-points for up to 16 simultaneous sounds. Editing is more powerful, too.
Choose from 16 modeled filters, edit envelopes, oscillators, portamento, polyphony and more. Users can edit an entire sound or access individual articulations, zones, or single samples, for the deepest level of control. And a new modulation matrix allows for linking sources like envelopes, LFOs and oscillators to almost any control.

Offering a “Sounds” section where someone brags over just ONE synth sound instead of actually demoing the library throws cold water on my initial interest. Strange way to promote a musical tool…. If the company isn’t confident of its library, why would I be?
Does anyone actually use Sampletank? I think it’s just something to throw in the box for people buying their first pro audio interface, and the pricing is just to create a ‘a $x99 value – FREE!’
Nothing against IK but in >20 years of being an electronic musician and working at a synth company and doing trade shows I have never met a single person that uses or even talks about it. I feel bad saying this because obviously people have put quite a bit of work into it over the years…but who is using it, and why are they using Sampletank as opposed to Reason/ Kontakt/ Ableton/ etc.?
Reason/Ableton are DAW, SampleTank is ROMpler. What’s better: fish or chair?
