VoIS is an 18-Channel Analog Stereo Vocoder and Formant System that’s available as an advanced do-it-yourself project.
It’s built around 18 individual analysis/synthesis channel boards, based on a standard 8-pole multi-feedback bandpass filter topology:
For accuracy and temperature stability, resistors from the E48 series and SMD capacitors (size 1206 or 0805) with C0G/NP0 dielectric are used. A total of 18 boards cover a frequency range from 120 Hz to 7 kHz.

I want one. Mouser parts cart alone is +$800 bucks…. I may have to settle for a vt-4
try to make a partial Tayda cart and cut corners where possible. might be possible to reduce to a fraction of the cost. Mouser carts are just a baseline.
acutally i take that back, after the reviewing the BoM it’s probably difficult to cut corners in a significant way with all those special series used for temperature stability etc.
I’ve been interested in the VT-4 lately myself as the VT-3 I’ve had sounds pretty good but unfortunately doesn’t use pitch through the carrier like a normal vocoder.
FWIW, I’ve been using the Roland Boutique VP-03 with a Shure SM-57 the great effect lately. Quite surprised how clear and intelligible the vocals have been coming through to be honest.
Impressive! That’s a really nice vocoder design with several really cool features.
i have not the space or the time or lets be honest the patience or knowhow to diy this. but i really like it and it sounds great.
Wasn’t this published in the Elektor magazine somewhere in the 1980s?
Anyway, nice to have the circuit boards available again to anyone interested.
For me the Vocoder and voice functions in the JD-Xi are more than sufficient 🙂
I have my kit in hand and the build is in queue. I think this will be a remarkable Vocoder equaling or surpassing the great hardware classics of the past
