This video, by TIFF Originals, features composer Matt Morton discussing the process behind his soundtrack to the new documentary Apollo 11.
Directed by Todd Douglas Miller (Dinosaur 13), Apollo 11 recounts the momentous days and hours when humankind took a giant leap into the future.
In the video, Morton discusses the origins of the music, the instruments he used, the laborious process of recording, and a breakdown of the elements of a cue.
Morton wrote, orchestrated, performed, recorded, and mixed all of the music for the film and its trailers, using instruments available at the time of the 1969 mission. These instruments included the Moog Synthesizer IIIc, the Binson Echorec 2 (tube echo), and the Mellotron (keyboard).
Seems like there’s a big resurgence in the Moog format modular going on. Good to see.
