FeelYourSound ChordPotion Translates Your Chords Into Arrangements

FeelYourSound has introduced ChordPotion (VST + AU) – a new composition tool that’s sort of like an arpeggiator on steroids.

ChordPotion takes the chords that you play and translates them into rhythmic patterns and melodic phrases – as MIDI – that you can use to control your favorite synths.

Features:

  • Works for many styles and genres, including EDM, hip hop, rock, pop, lounge, synthwave, and others.
  • Includes hundreds of patterns
  • Compatible with Ableton Live, Bitwig, Cubase, Logic Pro X, FL Studio, Reaper, Studio One, and many others (Windows + macOS).
  • Connects to any of your favorite synths. You can also use the built-in piano module to preview the generated phrases.
  • Play your chords live from a MIDI keyboard or use the playback system of your DAW.
  • Mix and combine different playing styles with each other to create your own unique recipes.
  • Export the generated notes as standard MIDI files.
  • Use the integrated randomization engine to create endless pattern variations easily.
  • Two different swing modes and a “tripletize” function make everything “more human” if needed.

Pricing and Availability

ChordPotion is available now for 45 EUR / $49.

  1. This is a clever approach: i.e., providing easy access to the top, “chords”, bottom, and an extra layer– to apply patterns that go beyond the usual arpeggiator options.

It seems like a reasonable way for an inexperienced person to take a chord track and add motion/rhythm. A more experienced person could use this to find patterns they wouldn’t ordinarily try if just going by their “muscle memory” or habits.

One thing that seems lacking is variation in note duration (short & long notes) and velocity (ghost notes, normal and accented notes) to add dimension. With many of those rhythm patterns, most of the mojo comes from changes in those two aspects.

There could also be whole sub areas of “slinky/swingy” grooves that could be variably quantized to add human slop that is VERY musical. That probably goes beyond the user-friendly scope of this app, but is worth mentioning as a next level that might be worthy of putting on the to-do list for future development.

  2. I’ve long been a fan of this guy’s work. Sundog has been a lot of fun to play with. The thing that I like so much about ChordPotion over the other similar plugins is the immediacy of results. It’s so easy to just play a chord and all of a sudden get a full sounding song part. Pretty great.
