UDO Super 6 Synthesizer (Sneak Preview)

New instrument company UDO has announced the Super 6, a 12-voice polyphonic Binaural Analog-Hybrid Synthesizer with super-wave technology.

    1. I take it to mean that each voice is actually two voices where one is hard set to left, and the other right, and there is a knob to detune one from the other but only by a small amount, maybe 30hz difference at the most.

    2. Like how theremins work, one would hope.
“heterodyning combine (a high-frequency signal) with another to produce a lower frequency.”

Otherwise it means stereo, I suppose.

Detuning to produce controllable binaural beats is possible, but marketable?

As a marketing tool “non-binaural beats” may reach a broader market.

    3. According to some specs released on musicrader it has “binaural analog signal path for stereo movement and spatial effects” – I think synthtopia used the word correctly based on this.

  1. I was just going to say that case is sexy (nice material and color), but I just noticed the keys stick out beyond the case. Yikes.

  2. This is the second significant departure from Modal Electronics, first it was Paula Maddox (formerly Paul), and now George Hearn.

    1. As far as I understand George Hearn was never an employee of Modal – he was just involved in the development of the Modal 008 voice engine.

      1. Interesting, I was under the impression that he was in fact an employee (vs contracted) and also worked on the OS of the 008 along with the head of OS Liam Lacey. However if that is the case, I stand corrected.

        Cheers

  3. Looks nice, I hope there is something more substantial here, than the “binaural” thingy which obviously makes no sense unless a) you want to have a headacke b) this is the first only headphone synth.

  4. There is no excuse to have keys that extend beyond the case. Make the case a little bit longer if you have to. These keys will get broken off. Other than that, seems like it will be a cool synth.

  5. Sounds like BS marketing to me, unless it really has ‘ear filters’ in the signal path, what would be the point of that. And ‘Super-Wave Technology’ hmmm, didn’t Roland try something like that years ago. God, I’m getting cynical in my dotage, excuse me. Still, I’ve always liked Axel Hartmann designs, so it has that going for it. I hope it sounds a bit more lively than the Modal synths though.
