Buchla USA Reintroduces Classic 100 Series Modular Synthesizer

At Knobcon 2019, Buchla USA announced that it is reintroducing the classic 100 Series modular synthesizer.

The system is based on the original San Francisco Tape Music Center Series 100. It’s being recreated with input from San Francisco Tape Music Center founders Morton Subotnick & Ramon Sender, and Buchla expert Todd Barton.

Here’s electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick telling the story of the origin of the original Buchla system:

Buchla USA CEO Eric Fox told us that they plan to make the Series 100 available pre-assembled and as DIY kits, via The Human Comparator.

Details on pricing and availability are still to be announced.

  1. It would be nice if the link to the DIY kits showed something recent!! Interesting rather than super exciting. You end up with a lot of real estate for the amount of functionality. There’s a reason the 200 series came out
