Free Orchestra Sound Library, Big Bang Orchestra

Vienna Symphonic Library has introduced Big Bang Orchestra, a free virtual instrument collection featuring the sound of a massive orchestra.

Here’s what they have to say about it:

Capturing the sheer power of a massive orchestra with the signature acoustics of Synchron Stage Vienna’s Stage A was one of the most riveting sampling experiences we’ve ever had. We’re so happy with the results that we want to share them with you – as a “thank you” to our worldwide community of music creators, and as a “welcome” to new users.

The instrument offers super-quick large orchestrations with multiple microphone positions for stereo and surround output.

Create large orchestrations in no time. Beef up your existing tracks by adding some massive tutti layers. Inject some inspiration into your composing process just by pressing a few notes and letting the huge sound work its magic. Articulations include staccatos, sustains, marcatos, swells and runs – just what you need to create earth-shattering accents, awe-inspiring “braaahhms” and nerve-wracking tension cues.

Using the Synchron Player’s full-blown mixer, you can adjust the level of the various mic signals or change the sound and ambience of the entire ensemble in the room. With the included Mixer Presets with settings from “close” to “distant” it’s easy to achieve perfect results. Use the “Processed” presets to summon a modern, fat orchestral sound with a simple mouse click. Now go ahead and kick some serious butt!

Features:

  • Massive “tutti” orchestr
  • Super-quick large orchestrations
  • Multiple microphone positions for stereo and surround output
  • 1.5 GB FREE sample content (Download size: 0.5 GB)
  • NKS coming soon

Note that, while the sound library is free, you need a USB licensing dongle to run it. VSL has them available for 15 Euro through October 31, 2019.

  1. USB licensing is still a thing? For a “free” library? And it’s only available as USB-A on Windows and macOS?
    Wow.
Guess it’s inadvisable to use this library on a MacBook, then.
Strange to say, but I wish they used iLok instead, since that copy protection scheme does work without a dongle, now.
The Spitfire approach of releasing Labs as a free plugin with light copy-protection (if any) is much more attractive.

And then, there’s the Virtual Playing Orchestra and VSCO Community Edition which are really free, giving access to the sample themselves for more flexibility. Particularly useful on mobile devices or on Raspberry Pi.

  2. Well said. Couldn’t agree more, enkerli.

It’s a hard pass, for me.

I can appreciate that the content might be useful, but I’m just gonna save space/$ for one day when I actually buy a respectable library.

  3. Installed and working fine. Nice addition to my other orchestra libraries. Fun to play (!) – has it’s limitations of course – but hey! Thanks Synthopia for the heads up!
