Reason Rack AU Plugin Now Available

Reason Studios has announced that Reason Rack Plugin is now available as an Audio Unit. It is included in the free Reason 11.1 update.

“With AU support (AUv2 to be exact), Logic and Live 9 users on Mac can finally use Reason Rack Plugin,” notes Reason Product Manager Mattias Häggström Gerdt. “In this release, we have also spent time getting rid of some annoying bugs and making sure Reason 11 is fully compatible with macOS Catalina. Reason 10 will be Catalina-ready very soon too. And yes, you can now use the TAB key to flip the rack in Reason Rack Plugin!”

  1. Propellerheads, I love Reason, but the the tiny display is unusable on modern computer systems.

If you want people to *USE YOUR PRODUCTS* they have to USABLE. So, pretty please, make the UI bigger. So more people can use it. And love it.

  2. Too little, too late for me. The workflow in the VST doesn’t weigh up in the very least to that of the full (and rewired) version 10. I’m also not very keen on actually having to install Reason 11 *twice* to make this thing work (the VST lives inside a full copy of the Reason 11 program folder) and all of that without having an option to relocate the software and / or its libraries and expansions onto another drive such as D. It’s simply not supported: Reason forces you to use C for all its assets which eats away precious SSD space.

And all of that is even ignoring more important aspects such as a lack of MIDI output. Maybe they’ll eventually sort it out, the ability to use the tab key is a step in the right direction, but I’m not going to wait for all of that to happen, if it even happens at all.

In the mean time I’m staying on Reason 10, which I still value and appreciate a lot, but for future endeavours I decided to rely on Komplete 12 from here on. Thanks to the Thanksgiving XXL sale I had the option to pick up the Collectors edition which includes their full orchestral series… meaning that I really wonder if I’ll ever upgrade Reason again.
