The Peeps Music Box, A DIY Synth Inspired By The Buchla Music Easel

The Peeps Music Box is a battery-powered handmade digital synthesizer, described as ‘a micro version of the Buchla Music Easel.

“It is not a modular synthesizer like the original Buchla,” notes the developer, “but all the switch buttons act like pre-patched possibilities that I felt like the most interesting patchs to use with the original Music Easel.”

The developer notes:

“If you want the sound of a Buchla system, the only way to get it is to buy a Buchla system.

What I’ve tried were to make a digital synth work with same functions as a Music Easel, but in the smallest possible size, and get deep into digital synthesis to understand how I can approach that type of sound.”

  1. John, do you think the Peeps sounds like an Easel to you? This sounds radically different. Listen to the 2nd video, the “tutorial” video for 1 minute. This is a raw sound, utterly unlike the Easel, which always has a recessed analytical sound to me, even orchestral. Am I wrong about the Easel? Is it capable of the amount of bite the Peeps is showing?
