  1. Obviously people will want different priorities and want different things adding….but the one thing we can all agree on is that Bitwig is developing rapidly and already has many unique and creative musical features. It may not be the most comprehensive DAW for normal composition or studio duties, but it is certainly the most fun and creative music and sound making tool I own.

Oh, and before someone posts it, it’s not subscription, it’s a perpetual Licence, you choose when to upgrade but when you do you get the next year of upgrades (3 or 4) free….

  2. A very lackluster video if you ask me, at the very least I’d expect something which clearly shows me all the new stuff we should get excited for but… I don’t see any of that here. What I do see is a lot of stuff going on in screen which automatically makes me wonder how many CPU cycles all that eye candy is going to gobble up and thus take away from the audio engines. But in all fairness: that critical comment may be fed by overal negative opinion about Bitwig, some bias could be in effect here.

Having said that… despite me disliking Bitwig and the way they started (IMO: ripping off the company they worked for) I do think it’s fair to say that it is impressive to see them making it this far. I may dislike them, each to their own, but it’s a plain out fact that they’re trying to add something new to the synth world and that is something I /can/ definitely respect.

  3. lame imho. there´s still no way to extract timing and volume information from an audio or midi clip, in order to create a quantized groove template. this is where ableton shines bright.

    1. Bitwig does 1000 things Live doesn’t do – Doesn’t make Live lame, it great for loop based production and ‘quantized’ EDM, not so good for other stuff- Bitwig excels at CV, modular, experimental, organic and creative types of music. Personally I hate all that ‘quantized groove template’ stuff- music for robots!

      1. Yeah and modulation and routing options are insane. And The Grid is amazing. Ableton might have Max4Live but the learning curve involves learning Max and all those object names and how to patch Max. Which isn’t in any way the same as just patching a modular. The Grid however is something anyone who knows their way around a synth can dig in to

    1. As the headline states, this release is the first big update to Bitwig Studio 3.

If that’s unclear to you, let us know any suggestions you have for improving the clarity of the headline.

  4. Still unable to work with video…we are heading 2020!!!
    «1000 things Live doesn’t do»
And still 1000 of obvious things bitwig doesn’t do!

    1. BitWig is clearly not designed for scoring to video or numerous other standard compositional duties (it’s tag line is ‘innovative music creation and performance software’). If however you want the very best in modular, creative, CV, MPE, microtonal (leftfield!) sound and music design then Bitwig is probably the best DAW for this. No DAW currently comes close to doing it all, that’s why I use several different DAWS depending on what I am creating, producing or recording.
