Ambient Music On A Macbeth Elements EL 2 Analog Synthesizer

Sunday Synth Jam: Synthesist Caspar Hesselager shared this live performance, An Avalanche, featuring the sound of a Macbeth Elements EL2 analog synthesizer.

Here’s what he has to say about the technical details of the performance:

The Macbeth Elements EL2 is sequenced by a Moon Modular 569 quad sequencer. Three sequence rows go to the individual CV ins of the three oscillators and a fourth row (set to random with some gates turned off) goes to GATE in.

Output into T-rex Replicator analog tape delay into Eventide Space pedal.

Recorded to one stereo track.

  1. 6 minutes listening to the shame sequence with little to no spectral evolution is a bit too much imo. This could work in a two/three min piece but anything beyond that is excessive. People should stop relying on reverb it is used to such an amount these days that offers nothing in the aural experience it just unifies the piece under a electronic music genre to afraid to reveal it’s true sonic character hiding behind a wash of sound.

    1. My teacher, the great Gottfried Michael Koenig, always said that there is a strong correlation between usage of reverb and lack of talent.

    1. Interesting. In that case, he must have experienced a great deal of insecurity or self-doubt upon hearing his own works performed in a concert hall.
